Wen an update fails there is usually an error code with some clues:

Trying things rarely results in success.

Doing things has a better chance of success.

If you went through the guided walk through it should have failed here:

Download the System Update Readiness tool from here (32-bit or 64-bit version):

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3132

Then double click to launch the SURT and it will sit there for a long time while it runs (do not interrupts it) and checks your system for errors and may fix them if it finds any.

When the SURT is finished navigate to this folder:

c:\windows\logs\cbs

Look for this log file, and open it with a text editor (Wordpad, Notepad, etc.)

Here is an example of what you want to see - No errors detected:

=================================

Checking System Update Readiness.

Binary Version 6.1.7601.22471

Package Version 26.0

Checking Windows Servicing Packages

Checking Package Manifests and Catalogs

Checking Package Watchlist

Checking Component Watchlist

Checking Packages

Checking Component Store

Summary:

Seconds executed: 1740

 No errors detected

If there are any errors, run the SURT again to give it a chance to correct any errors.

If there are errors that SURT can't fix you need to fix them and to do that I suggest you go to this community to get help with the errors and with the rest of your Windows Update problems:

I have a Windows 2008 R2 machine I am trying to update with this update and it won't install either - have tried all the solutions in this post (servicing stack had already been installed).  Even manually downloading the update fails to install.  It always returns with error 8024200D.
