Unwanted mystery language in language bar

Hello,

I use English and German keyboards, but I have an unwanted 3rd option in my language bar which shows as English - UK then underneath says is German.

Very confusing, and annoying because I want to be able to flip back and forth between EN and DE, not have a 3rd option.

I have tried finding this option in the available languages, it's not there. I have even tried downloading and deleting English (UK) and English (Germany) but no success. You can see I only have the two language packs installed now:

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Open the old Control Panel

At the top of Control Panel, set View to Icons

Select Region

Select the Administrative Tab on the resulting dialog

Click Change System Locale in the 'Language for non-Unicode Programs' section

Set the language in the drop down to the same as the System location/Language


Open the Settings App, then go to Time & language - Language & region

Scroll down and select Administrative language settings

On the Administrative tab click the Copy settings button

Enable 'Welcome screen and system accounts' and also New user accounts

Save that setting.

Restart (not shut down) the PC

thanks for your response. I've tried your advice with no luck. In the end I've played with these settings and restarted 10+ times now. I have set all region/locales/regional formats to English - United States. I have uninstalled English and German multiple times (with less features installed subsequently). When I uninstall German then this 3rd option also disappears. I then reinstall German, and for a few glorious moments there is only English and German. I then restart windows and it is back.

I am so frustrated that there is no clear way to remove this. Why does this option keep coming back? As you can see, absolutely nothing in these settings has anything to do with UK.

Now resolved, I removed the entry within preload and substitutes in the registry editor and then reinstalled the language packs. Now it works.
