unreadable record segment causes hdd to be raw

Hello. My disk have several unreadable record segments

because of this reason the following CMD command always fails with an error

chkdsk H: /f /r /x

the error

chkdsk H: /C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk H: /f /r /x
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Volume label is drive_H.

Stage 1: Examining basic file system structure ...

File record segment 292244 is unreadable.

File record segment 292245 is unreadable.

File record segment 292246 is unreadable.

File record segment 292247 is unreadable.

File record segment 304868 is unreadable.

File record segment 304869 is unreadable.

File record segment 304870 is unreadable.

File record segment 304871 is unreadable.


1719296 file records processed.

File verification completed.


7976 large file records processed.


8 bad file records processed.

Stage 2: Examining file name linkage ...

An unspecified error occurred (6672732e637878 56f)

However with a software like TestDisk i am able to copy the files

But i want to fix the disk. Currently it is seen as RAW

how can i fix it?

The "File record segment is unreadable" error is an indication of failing hard drive. You should run some diagnostic testing on the failing hard drive. Most HDD manufacturers have the diagnostic software available from their website. Software from Seagate will work with most brand.

Also, you may want to start the PC in safe mode and then run CHKDSK.

To start in safe mode:

a. When you hit the power button, hold down the Shift key when clicking the Restart button.

b. The next screen will present you with three options. Click Troubleshoot.

c. Next, hit Advanced options followed by Windows Startup Settings from the next screen.

d. Your PC will now be rebooted to enable the advanced parameters, which include Safe Mode as well.

I tried in safe mode doesnt do any help

The testdisk software perfectly sees all of the files

why such more advanced windows fails?
