Uninstall Windows 8.1 update

I updated my ASUS tablet to windows 8.1 and hate it. Slows my system down tremendously. How do I uninstall it and go back to windows 8? I know there is an option to enter my original product key, but I cannot find it. Is there another way?

Hi TJPrachyl,

I would suggest you to refer to the section “Can I go back to my old operating system?” from the link below.

Note: Apps you installed from websites and DVDs will be removed. Apps that came with your PC and apps you installed from the Windows Store will be reinstalled. Windows puts a list of removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

No need to worry, your files or pictures will not be deleted. Its only apps you installed from websites and DVDs will be removed. Apps that came with your PC and apps you installed from the Windows Store will be reinstalled. Windows puts a list of removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC. You can try the refresh option.

I installed 8.1 on my RT and really like it for desktop management.  The problem is that I can no longer look at video clips because it says I need the latest version of Flash Player, but when I go to get it, it says that I already have it.

Another problem is that I can't navigate around some websites, and am wondering if I can download Mozilla.

Thank you.

What does that mean? That all my installed software would be GONE? Are you kidding me? I don't have DAYS to reinstall everything and go through Microsoft's ridiculous verification routines and all that **** again.

My reply was also for you, TJPrachyl,.  I know what the discussion was about.   I was trying to figure out if I could uninstall Windows 8.1, which seems to be creating lots of problems for many people.  The  Windows store randomly opens repeatedly on my screen.  You seem to indicate above that "apps" would have to be reinstalled.  Are you saying installed software would be gone, such as QuickBooks, and other programs and have to be reinstalled?  What do you mean by "apps"?

Thank you suemonson.  I thought this update was going to be awesome. Turned out to be a nightmare. I cannot find my original product key, so I feel all may be lost.

Hi Anil

I am trying to go back to Windows RT 8 using your guidance but after the refresh I get back the same 8.1. I tried both refresh and reset recovery options but neither of them works. After the update internet connection is close to nothing so I need to go back the original version. Is there another way?

Thanks
Malik
