Uninstall Microsoft Digital Image Suite

I want to un-install Microsoft Digital Image Suite and use my Windows Photo Gallery for my photo files.  Will I lose my existing photo files when I uninstall Digital Image?  IF so, How do I avoid losing the pictures?  My operating system is Windows 7.

You could back up those pictures and then go for the uninstall.

Your photos are not archived "in" MS Digital Image Suite...it accesses
the photos from where they are saved on your hard drive...probably in
your Pictures folder. If you right click a thumbnail in DIS Library and
choose....Properties / General tab...the path to the saved file will be
displayed at Location.

As suggested by S.Sengupta...backing up your photos is a good idea
but uninstalling MS Digital Image Suite should have no effect on your
photos.

Just one more thought....sometimes tags, captions, etc... cannot be
written back to the actual photo files and the metadata is archived in
a proprietary database named Pictures.pd6. In this case...the tags,
captions, etc...would be lost.

Thank you for the response.  I found the path as directed, and it looks like I can do the uninstall.  First I have to get another thumb drive to back up the pictures.  But now I am not sure I am going to use just Photo Gallery, as I find no easy way to track pictures by folders, as is done in DIS.  It looks like Photo Gallery has a lot of ways to find pictures, but only if every picture has been labeled for PG.  I like to keep and find all pics by their folder.  But thanks for the input.

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback.

Just for experimentation...the freeware Picasa may
be worth a look.

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)

Picasa
http://picasa.google.com/
(for Windows XP/Vista/7)
(you may want to uncheck some of
the options on the final install screen)
