Unable to start windows update service

After my Windows 10 1909 stopped working I was forced to install Windows 11. But the requirements did not match. So I made some modifications and bypassed the requirements and installed Windows 11. Everything was working fine. But after some days I tried to install WhatsApp Desktop from Microsoft Store. But it did not install saying "Windows Update is disabled. Please run the troubleshooter to fix the problem." I tried running the troubleshooter. But wasn't able to find issues. So I tried finding it in Task Manager. And it was stopped. I tried running it but it did not start. So I checked services. It was disabled. I changed its properties from Disabled to Automatic (Delayed Start). It got fixed. But the next day it got the same problem. So I checked it again in Services. It was again Disabled. I changed its settings to Automatic. And after I tried starting the service it said "The Windows Update service started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs." Please help.

What was the problem in the Windows 10?

Try open start and search for cmd or Command prompt and right click on it and run it as administrator and then type the following command:

sfc /scannow

Press enter and let it runs.

There should be no reason to be forced to install Windows 11. Can you confirm the current version and build, type winver in Search and select the top result. Post back the details.

In doing that to install Windows 11 I don't know what has happened with the build. If you are running (essentially) a hacked copy of Windows 11 then it is not supported and may be actively restricted for windows updates.

If you have an Insider build then you should ask in the Insider forum with ref to this thread. (the screenshot appears to show the Dev channel)

The public build release is 22000.nnn
