Hi Richard,
I would suggest that you run [System File Checker] SFC scan on the computer which would scan for corrupt system files on the computer and replace them.
a. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
b. At the command prompt, type sfc /scannow, and then press ENTER.
Note: You may be prompt to insert the Windows XP CD.
The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
