Hi,

1.       Which update are you trying to install?

2.       Have you made any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

3.       What is the exact error code or error message?

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

Run the fixit from the following Microsoft Fixit article and check if it helps.

Automatically diagnose and fix common problems with Windows Update:

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_update/

Method 2:

Place the computer in clean boot state and then check whether it helps.

How to troubleshoot problem by performing clean boot in Windows 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135                                                                                                                        Note: Once you are done with the troubleshooting, perform the steps in Step 7: to reset computer as usual.

For further reference, check the following Microsoft article.

80010108 RPC_E_DISCONNECTED

The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.

Is the most recent Version of the Windows Update Agent (WUA) installed ?

The error may indicate an issue with the ActiveX component of the WUA, either it's an older Version that no longer works with the update servers or security software is interfering with it.

See the " How to obtain the latest Windows Update Agent " section in this MS KB: <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104>

In the WindowsUpdate.log ( How to read the Windowsupdate.log file

you'll see an entry like this entry *if* the latest Version of the WUA is installed:

2010-02-24 09:51:38:354 904 d80 Agent * WU client version 7.4.7600.226
