Each time system is booted up an error message appears saying "unable to install PCI memory controller".  Have checked system and there are no warning X anywhere and the laptop appears to run perfectly.  How do I disable this annoying message?

Answer

Hi Boardman,

a. Since when are you facing this issue?

b. Do you remember making any changes on your computer?

c. Is there any yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager (Click on Start, type Device Manager in the search box)?

d. What is the make and model of your computer?

Step 1:

PCI memory controller driver is normally included in chipset driver.

Click on Start, type Device Manager.

On the Device Manager window, click on show hidden devices.

Uninstall the problem device.

Do not restart the computer; install the driver downloaded from Intel website (either PCI Memory Controller / Intel Turbo Memory Driver or the chipset driver)

Step 2:

You can install the Windows Update on your computer using the optional updates option and then check if the issue persists as Windows Update would update the drivers for your devices.

To install optional updates, you need to review and then select them from the list of updates that Windows finds for your computer. Optional updates are not installed automatically.

1.       Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.

2.       In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.

3.      If you see a message telling you that optional updates are available, or telling you to review optional updates, click the message to view and select the optional updates to install. (In this case it would be an update for a webcam)

4.      In the list, click the optional updates to see more information about the update. Select the check boxes for any optional updates that you want to install, and then click OK.

5.      Click Install updates.

Read and accept the license terms, and then click Finish if the update requires it. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Hope this helps.
