Unable to download Minecraft for Windows 10 edition ( 0x803FB005 error)

Hello, I previously had Minecraft for Windows Edition successfully installed for over a year.  Today, after many failed attempts to upgrade from 1.16.40 to 1.16.100, I uninstalled Minecraft with a plan to re-install to see if that would get me the newest edition.  However, now I am unable to install Minecraft all using the Microsoft Store.  I have tried every fix listed here:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/apps_windows_10-winapps-appscat_entertainment/i-cant-download-in-windows-store-code-0x803fb005/828cef59-6d43-4292-9da5-322cb638f63a

Without success.  Every time after I click install there's a pause and then "Error", opening up details shows only the error code "0x803FB005" .  Any help is deeply appreciated as my daughter absolutely loves Minecraft and we just bought the Star Wars DLC.  Which she was very excited about.

Hi Shane. I'm Greg, an eleven years awarded MVP, Volunteer Moderator, and Independent Advisor here to help you until this is resolved.

Try signing out of the MS Store app at top right icon, restart PC and then sign back in. Try again.

If that doesn't work then run the Windows Store Troubleshooter from Windows Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

Try these fixes for the error:
https://windowsreport.com/0x803fb005-microsoft-... (Avoid ad links which intrude into editorial copy, especially avoid Restoro ad)
https://appuals.com/how-to-fix-windows-store-er... (Avoid ad links which intrude into editorial copy, especially avoid Restoro ad)

If none of the above help let's try all other repairs to fix the Store, based on helping to fix it daily for years here. Even if you've tried a step, please do it over in this sequence:

1) Try updating Store apps: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/402625....

Check also the Windows 10 Version number at Settings > System > About. If less than 1909 skip to Step 11 to upgrade to the latest by the most stable method.

2) Right click on the time and date in the far right corner of the taskbar. Choose Adjust Date and time settings, at the top make sure the time is correct. If it’s wrong, manually adjust it and make sure the sliders for Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically are set to on.

3) Type CMD in Search, run as Admin, type in box and press Enter, wait until it confirms Services were stopped successfully:

net stop wuauserv
net stop bits

Delete everything you find in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore and C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download.

Restart PC to restart these Services, or type in Admin Command:

net start wuauserv
net start bits

4) Try running the Windows Store apps Troubleshooter in Windows Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

5) Type CMD in Search box, Run CMD as administrator, type WSReset.exe and hit Enter. Or in the Search type wsreset.exe select Run as administrator.

6) If that fails to fix the problem go to Windows Settings > Apps > Apps & Features to highlight Microsoft Store, choose Advanced Options, then Reset. After it resets, restart PC.

7) If that fails then re-register the Microsoft Store:
Type CMD in Search, run as Admin, copy and paste into box:

powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml

If you receive error "Cannot find path 'C:\AppxManifest.xml' because it does not exist" it means the Store was uninstalled. Try all the steps here:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/win...
If these do not work then skip to Step 11 to reinstall WIndows including the Store while keeping your apps, files and most settings in place..

8) Clear the LocalCache Folder: Open Run by pressing the Windows key + R hotkey.
Copy and paste %localappdata% in Run and click OK.
Open Packages> Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe > LocalCache folder.
Press the Ctrl + A hotkey to select all content within the LocalCache folder.
Press the Delete button.

9) Type services.msc in Search box, choose Run as Administrator, from Services tab ensure that Microsoft Store Install Service is checked, if not restart PC.

Alternative methods to work through the above steps here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR1fux9Q9O4

10) If these all fail then go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account because of the serious and persistent problem with corrupted accounts. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

11) If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, and is also the most stable method to advance to the latest version. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hi Greg,

I started having this same problem today.  I couldn't update Minecraft because of Error 0x803FB005, so I tried a few guides posted online, which didn't help.

I then uninstalled Minecraft, thinking I could reinstall and get the latest version, but then I got this same error and cannot download the app.  Now I'm in deadly trouble with my son!

Thank you for the really long answer - but I'm afraid none of that has worked.  I have gone for the final option of reinstalling Windows 10 Pro from a USB stick without keeping files.  After it has all finished setting up, I try to download Minecraft from the store, and again I get the same error.

Is there anything else you can possibly suggest?  I could try formatting and installing Windows again, but I'm not sure how it would give a different result...

Thank you Greg for the quick and detailed feedback.  I went through every step detailed in your response and none of them have lead to a resolution of the issue 0x803FB005 error when attempting to install Minecraft Windows Edition from the Windows Store.  Would there be a way to install Minecraft Windows Edition without the store?

I should also mention that other Windows Store applications install just fine and that Minecraft had installed in the past and running fine for over a year.

I have the same situation here. Windows 10 is up to date (version after May, 2020).

Any other app can be installed by using Windows Store, But Minecraft cannot be installed.

I've tried to do all the steps mentioned above by the community without any result.

Waiting for a solution asap,

I have the exact same problem. My son's Minecraft just wouldn't update, so he couldn't play with on his friends world. I tried uninstalling after I couldn't update it, now I can't install it at all. I can install other applications from the store, but Minecraft Windows 10 seems to be the only one with the error 0x803FB005. I have tried all kinds of repairs, windows updating, deleting cache, re-registering Microsoft Store, etc. with no luck.

Having the same issue here.  Originally started when I tried to update minecraft for windows 10 on multiple devices.  Some worked but two of them would not update from version 1.16.40 to 1.16.100.  On one device I removed minecraft and tried to reinstall from the store.  Now all I get is the error mentioned above.  I went about updating windows on both problem devices and performing the above mentioned fixes to no avail.  Any other program/app will install from the store just not minecraft.  Help please.

Ok, I have figured this code: 0x803FB005 out!

Like some of you, I too had a son that was extremely disappointed last Saturday when he went to log on to realms to play with his friends.

It said we needed an update for realms- update was not loading- Dad (thinking rationally) deleted Minecraft so I could reinstall with new update, all to be presented with the 0x803FB005 code of death! (many, many, times)

I tried EVERYTHING that this forum suggested to no avail. So I decided it might be my old computer (2011 Dell Optiplex 790MT with original graphic card). Since my 2016 HP Laptop updated and installed with no issues I knew it was not on Microsoft server side.

I ended up buying a MSI GT710 graphic card off Amazon. Installed it (read directions) and poof!!! Minecraft stared downloading in Windows store and loaded with no issues. This is the link to the one I bought. It's a small investment but I will have a happy boy come tomorrow.

It seems that Microsoft and the Minecraft game developer both solved that issue. Since some days I'm able to reinstall the game in my old PC with directx 10, without any error.
