Unable to add .WAV files to music library in Media Player (new)

I am trying to add .WAV files to my music library in Media Player (not the old one from the windows XP days, the one that came with Windows 10 and can be found in the Windows app store). When prompted with the "Add Folder" button when the app says it cannot find any music. It can find the .mp3 files in the music folder. I confirmed the .WAV files are present, and when clicking on the individual files, Media Player will play them without an issue. I've tried reinstalling the app and deleted all previous data associated with it, however I cannot add my music to the music library. I must manually go to each file individually for Media Player to play it.

I am currently using Windows 10 and version 11.2304.2.0 of Media Player

Hello Devin,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I tested the issues you reported here on multiple devices, using both Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices.

Here is my complete process, if you follow a different process than the one I have outlined here, please refer to my steps.

  1. Create a.wav file on your desktop and set it to "Test".

  2. Open the media player and click on the music library.

  3. Click "Add foloder," find the path where the Test file is located, and then click "Add this foloder to Music".

  4. The.wav file is displayed in the music library.

If you follow this process and the.wav files in the folder are still not recognized by Media Player after you add the folder, try changing the files to a folder (such as the desktop) and then try adding them again.
