UdaterUI.exe - Corrupt File error

The following error message appears upon startup and login of my Windows 7 system:

UdaterUI.exe - Corrupt File

The file or directory C:\Windows\Prefetch is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.

Any advice on how to fix this would be great.

Hello,

Welcome to Microsoft Community forum. We would be glad to help you.

1.     Which security software is installed on your machine?

2.     Have you made any changes to the system?

Udaterui.exe is a file related to the user interface of the McAfee.

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check:

Method 1

Perform a Clean Boot to see if there is any software conflict as clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts.

Follow the link below to perform clean boot:

“How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8”

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Note: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

Method 2

Follow the steps from the article below to check your drive for errors.

Check a drive for errors

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/check-a-drive-for-errors

NOTE: If the hard disk is large, Chkdsk may take several minutes to several hours to complete.

WARNING: When Chkdsk detects problems with the file system and attempts to repair the damage, data loss can occur. Microsoft does not recommend running Chkdsk with the /f command-line switch unless you have a full backup of your hard disk.

Please reply back with the results in order to let us help you further.

Regards,

Deepak.
