Trying to set lock screen slideshow without computer sleeping

I am running a fully up to date version of Windows 11 home version 21H2. The other day I set a slideshow to appear on the lock screen after inactivity and after a while, noticed that my computer had actually gone to sleep. I have the computer set to never sleep when plugged up. I have it set this way because my internet is slow and often need to download large games and sleeping interrupts the download. I want to know if there is a way I can set this slideshow without the computer going to sleep? I would appreciate any help anyone can provide. Please, no lectures on how not allowing my computer to sleep increases power consumption.

Hello, Jeffrey108

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Have you enabled "When my PC is inactive, show the lock screen instead of turning off the screen" in Windows settings > Personalization > Lock Screen > Advanced slideshow settings, after you set the lock screen as slideshow?Of course, the computer needs to be set to never sleep.

Also, have you selected "Don't turn off" for this option: Turn off the screen after the slideshow has played for ?

If you can't find these options, update Windows first. The latest version of Windows 11 is Version 22H2 (OS build 22621). Or you can download and install Windows 11 22H2 from here: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other concerns.

Best regards

Thanks for the reply. I did select Don't Turn Off for the option of turn off screen after slideshow has played for a certain amount of time. All of the other options I already had set.

As for the update to 22H2, I'm not sure why Windows update isn't prompting me to install that. Windows Updates always says I'm up to date when I check it. I'll look at downloading and installing it manually myself today.

May I ask how you are doing after updating to version 22H2?

Also, I'd like to mention that I set the screen to never turn off.

The problem with the computer going to sleep is fixed. Thanks. Didn't install 22H2 as I would have to reinstall the entire OS using the link you provided. Any way to just install 22H2 stand alone or would the installer have only installed the missing update? Still don't understand why Windows Update has never downloaded it to install. Thanks again.

I highly recommend that you post your solution here, so that more people can be helped.

Actually you can choose whether to keep your files or remove them when installing Windows. But of course, if you are more satisfied with 21H2, you can continue to use it. Anyway, to update Windows or not depends on your needs.

You can refer to this article and then go here: Microsoft Update Catalog to download these updates (KBs) manually, and install them one by one. Of course, it's a bit of a hassle to do so, but there isn't a single 22H2 installer that includes all subsequent updates, except the ISO image in Download Windows 11.

Microsoft did have an explanation for this problem. I don't know if it fits your situation: Windows 11, version 22H2 known issues and notifications | Microsoft Learn

As for which application is causing you not to receive the push, I'm afraid you need to troubleshoot it yourself.

I fixed the problem of the computer going to sleep by selecting Don't Turn Off option in Turn Off The Screen After The Slideshow Has Played For. I was also able to get the 22H2 update installed using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant that you linked above. I thought it would reinstall Windows but it didn't, only the update.

I also have an issue with the laptop going to sleep occasionally while plugged in, even with the slideshow at the lock screen disabled. Just wondering if that is an issue with Windows 11?

Thanks very much for all of your help. It is very much appreciated.

Have you checked your Screen and sleep settings in Windows settings > System Power & battery?

Or in Control Panel: Power options>Change when the computer sleeps?

Also, check in your laptop's BIOS settings if any of the options are related to power or sleep.
