Trimming issues.

App has been fine for years but some recent updates have messed things up a bit on my end, whenever i trim videos the videos become a bit saturated and grey, and when i try to open a video after trimming one, the video is just black for a while as its audio plays and my pc freezes a bit until that video plays, to combat that issue i have to end all tasks of Photos as it seems multiple instances of Photos are opened somehow, i've tried repairing photos and reinstalling it but nothing works, also before i uninstalled it apparently it was taking 400MB on my PC, now after i reinstalled it its only taking 944 KB, not sure if thats worth noting but whatever, either way would really appreciate the fix to this.

Tried to use legacy photos but when i try to trim it forces me to use the photos one instead, even if i uninstall it..

Hi Fahmy Magdy,

Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community.

In your description, after some recent updates, you are experiencing a black section after editing a video and playing it while the video appears somewhat gray.

I noticed that you tried the fix as well as uninstalling and reinstalling Photos and double checked that it was taking up a large storage size, thank you for the attempts and observations you put into resolving this issue, I do understand the frustration of still having the problem after trying a number of options.

There is also a lot of feedback from other users with similar issues. I apologize for the trouble and inconvenience caused to you during your use.

You can refer to the following link to uninstall the recent updates

How to uninstall a Windows update - Microsoft Support

Alternatively, you can refer to the following link to restore your system to a point before the problem occurred

Use System Restore - Microsoft Support

If you are unable to fix the problem with the above options, or still wish to keep the update as it is now, please refer to the next steps.

You mentioned that you use legacy photos, is it an older version from before?

Here's a thread that has a Paint 3D issue, and one of the volunteer moderators' replies provides a link with links to find and download older versions of some of the apps.

If you've tried older versions of the Photos app, you can try looking for other different versions at that link.

How do I add Paint 3D to the open with menu choices in Windows - Microsoft Community

You can also refer to the following steps to try to set or change the default way of opening files

1 Right-click on the Start button and select Settings

2 Click Apps>Default apps

3 Find Photos, click on it, and then set the corresponding type of file to the app you want to use, if necessary.

You can also refer to the following link to create a new local administrator account

Manage user accounts in Windows - Microsoft Support

In the new local account, test different versions of the Photos app to see if there is a non-problematic app.

Also, the current software for editing videos in Windows is Clipchamp, you can refer to the following link to learn about it

Quick and easy video editor | Clipchamp

Clipchamp Video Editor | Microsoft 365

You can try using Clipchamp to see if you have the same problem.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Best regards,

Zev - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
