Tray App in Windows 10

Good Morning,

Whenever I restart my computer after an update, the Microsoft Installer keeps trying to run the Tray App but cannot find it on the server.  I cannot shut it down or cancel it.  This question was asked previously on these means but was dated 2009, what is the process to correct his irritant with Windows 10?

Working safely from home.

Hi BernardDeGagne,

I'm Paul, a fellow customer like you & an Independent Advisor. Kindly allow me to ask to start troubleshooting your issue.
• Is this a new or ongoing issue in your end?
• What has been changed in the system before the issue first started?
• Kindly send me some screenshots?

Looking forward to your reply. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Paul,

Thanks for getting back to me.

In answer to your questions:

This happens every time I restart my computer.

I am not aware of any changes in my system before this started.

I cannot seem to take any screen shots, even though I have pushed the Print Screen button.  Right now a small window labelled Windows Installer is present (I can minimize) with the blue wheel of death present when I place my cursor within it, even though I have cancelled the install.

Hi Bernard,

Got it, thanks. Try taking a photo of it instead? You also mentioned this issue was asked in 2009, are you able to provide me the URL instead? Thanks.

For now, try to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter below. Reboot your PC & test if it persists.

Here is the URL of the 2009 reference to the issue.  I will reboot after running the trouble shooter and take photos and let you know.

I adjusted the update detection in Settings as you recommended and saw a number of updates made, (four I think) which explains my tardy response. The error windows persisted on each startup but have disappeared now so maybe they timed out. I took photos which I will try to send from my phone.

Hi Bernie,

Got it, thanks. Now, looks like that resolved the issue. But keep me posted with the photo, in case it comes back.
If it does persist, my next recommendation is to perform a clean boot until we're able to identify which services/apps that might have been causing this issue. Here's how to do it below.
