transfer programs only from a windows 10 pc to a new windows11 pc

My current windows 10 pc has been required to be replaced as it's not compatible with windows 11 and latest updates to some programs now are starting to give stability problems so I want to transfer programs only that I need to my new windows 11 pc is there a way to carry this out ?

Hi John,

I'm Dyari. Thanks for reaching out. I will be happy to assist you in this regard.

As far as I understand you issue, you want to transfer your installed software from your Windows 10 computer to your new Windows 11 computer. is that correct?

If yes, unfortunately, there is no Microsoft native tool or utility to clone/transfer an installed software from a computer to another one. The best option would be installing it on your new computer. Make sure your software is compatible with Widows 11.

Please let me know if you need further assistance and keep me updated.
Sincerely,

Do you have installation disk for the programs/apps?

Try dragging the program you want on your new computer from the Program folders on your Windows 10 computer to your Windows 11 computer.

Any programs that you downloaded online did you save them to your downloads folder. I have a lot of mine saved in Downloads and a folder I named Programs folder.

The above suggestions are the way I moved everything from my Dell Desktop XPS 8920 Windows 10 to my new Dell Desktop XPS 8940 Windows 11.

With tare exceptions, it is not possible to move an installed program from one computer to another. That's because almost all programs are not just an .exe file, but have many other files and reference within Windows and elsewhere.

So the only way to get your programs onto the new computer is to reinstall them from their original media or from their downloaded installation files.

I need to move some older software that I use frequently to my old Windows 10 computer to my new Windows 11 computer; however, my new computer does not have a disk drive to allow reloading the software. Is this?

Buy an external USB CD/DVD drive. They're inexpensive--$20 or so.
