Touchpad not working on my HP Pavilion x360 Convertible

Hi,

My laptop touchpad stopped working.

The I2C HID Device (one of the 2) is showing an error. I tried updating it , but get an error: Windows found drivers but encountered an error when attempting to install them. The device cannot start (code 10).

I tried to find the driver on the HP Support website, but they have nothing. Is there a way to manually update/install a driver?

I'm running Windows 11 with all the latest updates installed. The system model is HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14m-dw1xxx.

Thank you,

Hi DSOB -

I'm Jerico T., I understand that you're having some issues right now and I'd be more than happy to help you today.

Prior to the issue, is there any recent changes on your PC? Let's try to rollback your touchpad driver and check if it will make any difference.

1. Open run box by pressing Windows Key + R and type devmgmt.msc then hit enter
2. Locate and expand Mice and other pointing devices
3. Right-click HID-compliant mouse and select Update driver
4. Select Browse my computer for drivers
5. Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
6. Select any older driver from the list and click next
7. Wait for the process to complete, once completed, restart your computer and check if it resolves your issue.

If in case the issue still persist, please perform System Restore.

System Restore
- System restore is where it will take your computer settings back to an earlier point in time where everything is working fine.

1. Open the run box by pressing Windows Key + R and type rstrui.exe then press enter.
2. System restore windows will open. Normally it will suggest a restore point(Sometimes it doesn't), if it does, select the 2nd option to select more restore points.
3. Select your desired restore point date and time.
4. Once selected, hit next and finish.

Windows will restart itself to start system restore. System restore might take some time to complete and it is very important that system restore must not be interrupted during restore process as it might damaged the operating system. System restore will take at least 20 minutes or more depending on the content of the computer and the changes on the settings that was done prior to the date selected. System restore will also removed application , updates and drivers installed prior to the date selected.

DISCLAIMER:
System Restore is a recovery tool for Windows that allows you to reverse certain kinds of changes made to the operating system. System Restore is used to return important Windows files and settings—like drivers, registry keys, system files, installed programs, and more—back to previous versions and settings. Being said all applications and changes made prior to the date selected will be removed and needs to be re-installed if its needed.

Feel free to reach back if you need any further assistance.

Hope this help. Have a good day.

Thank you,
Jerico T.

Hi and thanks for the reply. Unfortunately neither option worked.

Trying to update the driver by browsing my computer for drivers is how I get the Code 10 error in the first place. I tried to do at last a dozen times - it doesn't run, I just get that error.

System Restore didn't work either.

Is there a way to download a driver not on my computer?

If possible

a) Open msinfo32 > save as NFO (do not save as text) > post a share link into this thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive

b) Download and install the latest version of the HP Support assistant:

Run through the steps in this HP link: (for notebooks but may have useful steps for the convertible)

Run each of the HP diagnostics: UEFI and Windows

The UEFI can run overnight while sleeping: system > extensive > loop until error > the next day click esc > take pictures > post images or share links displaying the tests performed with results

They each have component tests which can run to test specific hardware related problems.

The UEFI hardware diagnostics can be downloaded and installed on the computer and / or run from any bootable flash drive with free space.

Windows:

Open administrative command prompt and copy and paste:

msdt.exe -id WindowsUpdateDiagnostic

msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

run as needed:

msdt.exe -id DeviceCenterDiagnostic

After running each Microsoft troubleshooter > click > view detailed information > post images or share links into this thread

On a working computer a flash drive can be inserted and HP drivers can be downloaded and saved to the flash drive.

The flash drive can then be moved to the problematic computer.

Drivers may fail to install when there are underlying hardware problems.

Hi DSOB,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Below is the support page for your laptop on the HP website, set the OS version to 2004, then open the Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices section, you should be able to install the recommended HP touchpad driver from there.
