"To install the software, you must log on as a member of the Administrators group" when trying to install printer software

Original Title: Installing Software Error

 

I'm trying to install a Canon wireless printer on my new Dell laptop with Windows 8 but I get the error:  To install the software, you must log on as a member of the Administrators group.  I am clueless - I am the only one who uses this laptop and have used the one and only password to log in.

Solution...for me at least: 

(Firstly, copy the installer to a flashdrive)  I am using Windows 7 Enterprise and have tried so many combinations of running the installer. The final bit that worked is to restart the computer, log into the machine as administrator or another local user on the machine which is part of the local Administrators group, THEN Rclick the installer and Run as Administrator.
