The tiles won't go away and it's not allowing me to see my background.

Hi Andrew,

Before proceeding could you please answer few questions:

  1. What is the exact issue you are facing with?

  2. When you sayThe tiles won't go away” what exactly are you referring to?

For better understanding of this issue, I suggest you to post a screenshot of the same. Refer to the below link:

I have what seems to be the same problem: when I close out of whatever app I am in, rather than seeing the desktop, I am treated to what looks similar to the start screen (even though full-screen start is off). this page seems to be titled "pinned apps", and behind it I can see my desktop pic, but not the desktop icons. I cannot make this page go away, minimize or resize it. My computer is brand new, so I am not familiar with all of its functions, but I have no idea how to fix this.

I had a similar problem: try hitting the action center button - it looks like a small chat icon near the bottom right of your screen on the task-bar, then if the tablet mode icon is blue, click it. That worked for me, even though I had turned off tablet mode in the settings.
