This version microsoft genuine advantage no longer supported?

On trying to download a package from microsoft.com there is a validation challenge, no problem, seen these before, download, run, copy the code.

A couple of days ago this stopped working. On executing genuinecheck.exe I get an immediate message box stating

"This version of the Windows Genuine Advantage validation tool is no longer supported. Please download the newest version and ensure your system clock is accurate"

I've been through everything several times, tried everything, no change, so now I wonder whether the tool is expired and MS need to update it.

XP Pro fully patched.

Date and time, definitely very close. Checked several times and agrees with radioclock here. Timezone and region normal.

Windows update is working, sends messages and can download and apply.

Two different ways MS tools say this is a genuine install. (which it is)

Infections? Very unlikely.

Recent system change? Nope, did a restore from backup.

Disk check, sfc, etc. nothing.

Computer is operating entirely normally.

genuinecheck version 1.9.0042.0

Challenge occurs several places, same result.

Example is here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7217

An observation: from not working to working might have been June 2012 to July 2012, can't remember clearly enough.

Beneath all this I am trying to get IMAPI2 actually working. One of the cases where it doesn't install properly. Related?  No idea.

Hi,

I would suggest you to run the Microsoft Genuine Diagnostics Tool then copy and paste the results in a reply here for further analysis:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

Also I would suggest you to check your product key and report to Microsoft regarding the issue.

View the following link to report to the Microsoft.

I don't want to show everything to the world. Most of it is here. Give me an email and I'll send the whole thing.

I get the impression you suspect a fraud. Consider how that looks.

Q: Have you actually checked whether there is an expiry on the tool? Isn't it reasonable to take a message from your company software stating it is out of date as reason to suppose it is correct in what it says? Misinterpretation of the date is an implication. Could even be a region problem, I'm not in the US. Update is date sensitive but that has no problem right now, proving nothing significant wrong with the date. A few minutes is good enough so it won't be the leap second which was added on the 1st.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
 Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
  - **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Did you ever get a sensible and intelligent answer for this? I am trying to download Windows Mobile Device Center, which requires validation, the tool downloads and gives the same error you have. I am using Windows 7 64 bit, clearly Microsoft has stuffed the tool with some update, my system is also fully patched. It appears Microsoft can no longer manage their own resources. Technical support seems to be "read the standard response" without even reading ththe reported fault.

You meed to use Internet Explorer for all validation-related matters currently - MS has managed to break ActiveX for all other browsers, and seems to be in no hurry to fix it.

Using IE9, this validation downloads "GenuineCheck.exe" and runs this, nothing to do with browser. File is dated 2008. Manually downloading and running file gives same error. So outdated file from Microsoft server

What exact page/link are you using for the download?

Are you using IE 32-bit or 64-bit?

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/exe-validation.aspx?id=14

for example, using 32 bit IE, have never had much luck with the 64 bit version, just tested with 64 bit version, no differnce. Pretty sure I could use any browser with same fault as is running ,exe

That is the direct download page for the tool - NOT for the app you are attempting to download.

try this one instead using Internet Explorer 32-bit

Click on the Continue button, and after a few seconds, the page should refresh, and the button change to a Doanload one
