This installation package could not be opened.Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.

Every time I boot my Windows 11 PC I get the error message "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

I'm not trying to install anything and so have no idea which program, or update, or driver is trying to get installed. I've tried and failed in many ways to get rid of this. I think it would be very helpful to identify the offended program failing to install. Could someone tell me where Win 11 logs the event associated with this install failure where it describes the issue?

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Click the link below to download a small free utility that does not require installation.

https://download.sysinternals.com/files/Autorun...

When the file downloads, unzip it.

Run Autoruns64 as Administrator

1
Select the Logon tab at the top of Autoruns.

Please provide a screenshot of all entries on that tab.

2
Select the Scheduled Tasks tab at the top of Autoruns.

Please provide a screenshot of all entries on that tab.

Thank you for the screenshots, I suspect is is one of the two processes shown below on the Scheduled Tasks tab, uncheck those two, then restart your PC to apply that change, to see if that stops the popups.

Thanks, Dave. Unchecked both of those tasks, restarted, but, as always, right after windows login the same installation package error pops up.

Then ran Autoruns64.exe as Admin again and verified those two tasks remain unchecked.

In Autoruns, select the Logon tab, the 3 entries below are the only entries for updaters to run when Windows starts, try unchecking these 3 items and restart your PC to see if that solves the problem.

If that does not solve the problem, please provide a screenshot of the popup you see when you start your PC.

Dave, shouldn't the logs accessible via Windows Event Viewer be logging this install failure every time I boot and logon? I've not been able to find it there but I'm unsure how to search and filter there. Or does this event get logged somewhere else?
