The touch screen does not work on Lenovo Yoga.

So I got a new Lenovo yoga which has windows 8 and is touch screen. It was working fine for a while and now I can no longer swipe for the charms side bar or the apps opened on the left of the screen. The charms bar works for swiping when I am in tablet mode and in portrait orientation but not in normal laptop mode. I can call it using windows+c when in laptop mode but I would really like to fix it! thanks!!

Original title: New Lenovo yoga problems with touch screen

Hi Hannah,

Thank you for contacting the Microsoft Community.

You have an issue with the touch screen not working on the computer. It can be difficult when something that is important to you does not work as expected. It is pretty simple and we are here to help you fix the issue. We will work as a team and get this sorted out.

Please answer these questions-

1)    Do you get any error message or error code?

2)    Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

I would like more information regarding the issue.

Method 1-

Step 1-

Let us check if the issue persists in Safe Mode.

Refer the steps-

Refer the steps-

a)      Click on the “Windows+R” key simultaneously, type “msconfig” (without the quotes) and hit “Enter”.

b)      Now, select the “boot” tab and check the box next to “Safe Boot”.

c)       Also place a dot next to “Network”.

d)      Check if the issue persists in Safe Mode.

Note: You need to undo all the changes made earlier and get the computer back to Normal Mode.

Proceed to Step 2, if the issue does not persist in Safe Mode.

Step 2-

I would recommend you to perform a Clean Boot.

Placing the computer in a
Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to perform the steps from the article-

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7, or Windows 8
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: You need to follow Step 3 from the article to get the computer back to Normal Startup after performing all the troubleshooting steps.

Method 2-

If nothing helps, then I would have you refresh the computer.

Refer the link-

How to restore, refresh, or reset your PC

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc

Note: Make sure you back up the data on the computer before proceeding further.

Refreshing the Operating System will reinstall all the apps downloaded from the Windows Store. But, the apps installed from other sites will be removed permanently. Proceed at your risk.

Additionally, refer the article-

Touch and pen settings: Frequently asked questions

Do let us know if you have any other queries pertaining to Windows in the future. We will be happy to help. We, at Microsoft strive towards excellence and provide our customers with the best support.

Thanks.

Nirmal,

Thanks for the information. I had the same issue as Hanna.  I place the boot computer in Safe Boot mode and rebooted my computer and the touch screen worked. I removed the Safe Boot option and then rebooted my machine again and my touch screen worked again.

Hi,

Please try the settings below:

Step 1: Connect a USB keyboard or mouse to the tablet. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Pen and Touch.

Step 2: Enable Use your finger as an input device option. Click Apply button to enable the touch screen.

Method 2: Use this method only if your tablet doesn’t have USB ports

Step 1: Press and hold the power button to shut down the tablet.

Step 2: After shutting down the tablet, press the power button again to switch on the tablet and boot into Windows. You should now be able to use the touch screen.

If you don't have pen and touch on control panel go to Hardware, Device Manager and HID Compliant touchscreen. This is most probably disabled. Click on enable button

Hi,

Since you tried a lot of troubleshooting steps already and the issue still persists, we highly recommend that you contact Lenovo technical support for further assistance, since this is a possible hardware issue.

Keep us posted.

Thanks, but I'm thinking of two options.

1. Restoring my laptop to an earlier date.

or

2. Going back to Windows 8.1

I'm leaning towards option 2, as I don't think it's a hardware issue.  Windows 10 is horrible.  Noticed several issues since their free upgrade.  Guess the lesson here is 'you pay a price for something offered free'
