The System Event Notification Service service failed the sign-in.

I am currently using Windows 8.1
2 days before I updated my PC to 8.1 from 8
Then last night I kept Asphalt 8 for downloading from the store
And in the morning I shut down the PC and after several minutes
when I turn on my PC it shows somewhat like this :

"The System Event Notification Service service failed the sign-in.
Function could not be executed"

And the PC also doesn't shut down I have to force shut down it.
So please help, it's not starting at all. I even tried in Safe Mode
but it shows somewhat like this when I open MSCONFIG
and disable startup items:

And this was the message on start up

Hi Hashim,

This issue is usually caused because of the System Event Notification service is set to manual. I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it works for you.

Method 1:

Check if you have set the System Event Notification service to Manual. If it set to Manual, then set it back to Automatic and check.

Follow the steps to check and set the service from Manual to Automatic:

a. Press Windows + R keys and type Services.msc and press Enter.

b. Search for the service "System Event Notification".

c. Right click the service and click Properties.

d. Check the startup type of the service. If it set to Manual, then change the startup type to Automatic by selecting Automatic from the drop down under startup type.

e. Click Apply and Ok to save changes.

f. Restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

Method 2:

Place the computer in Clean Boot state and check if the issue persists. Clean Boot will help you determine which third party program or app is causing this issue.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 or in Windows 8/8.1:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Note: After clean boot troubleshooting step, refer to the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

Hi Hashim,

Thank you for replying with the status of the issue.

First of all, I would like to apologize for the late reply.

I would suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue persists. If the issue does not persist in new user account, then proceed with Step 2 and 3.

Step 1: Create a new Microsoft Account.
Create a user account:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=windows-8

Step 2: If the new user profile works properly, then copy and paste the data files to the new user profile.

Follow the steps below to copy the files from the old Microsoft account to the new Microsoft account:
a) Press/tap Windows and x together and select Windows Explorer.
b) Click/tap on
View tab and click/tap on Options
at the top right corner.
c) Click/tap the
View tab, and then click/tap Show hidden files
, folders, and drives.
d) Uncheck the box which states
Hide protected operating system files
.
e) Click
Yes to confirm, and then click OK
.
f) Locate the
C:\Users\Old_Username folder
, where C is the drive that Windows is installed on, and Old Username is the name of the profile you want to copy files from.
g) Select all of the files and folders in this folder, except the following files:
Ntuser.dat

•Ntuser.dat.log
•Ntuser.ini

h) Right click/tap and Select Copy.
i) Locate the
C:\Users\New_Username folder
, where C is the drive that Windows is installed on, and New Username is the name of the new user profile you created.
j) Right click/double tap inside the folder and select
Paste.
k) Restart your PC and check if you are able to log in to the computer using the new Microsoft account with all the files of the old account.

Step 3: If the new user profile is working fine, then delete the old user.

Follow the steps to delete the corrupted user account profile:
a) Login to your new User Profile.
b) Click/tap on the “Windows logo” and type “User Accounts”.
c) Now, select “Settings” and then select the “User Accounts” icon.
d) Click/tap on “Manage another account” and then select the user account that you want to delete.
e) Click/tap on “delete the account”.
f) Depending on whether you want to “Keep the files” or “delete the files” choose the appropriate option.
g) You can delete the other accounts similarly.

Please reply with the status of the issue, so that we could help you better.

Hi Hashim,

This game/app performance issue might be because of many reasons, such as not meeting the minimum System Requirements or due to not having updated video card drivers. I would like to know some information to help assist you further with this issue.

Try updating the video card drivers and check if it helps.

Follow the steps to update the hardware driver:

a. Press Windows + X keys and click Device Manager.

b. Expand ‘Display Adapters’.

c. Right-click on the Display Adapter listed and click on ‘Update Driver Software’.

Method 2:

I have tried these 3 options to no effect.

I am a novice.

Pressing windows + W or Windows +R only tries to log in as my password

Computer will restart but shift restart to reboot in safe mode simply brings the problem back again

I cannot log in to use any administrator / user profiles.

This problem arose after I did yesterdays Windows 8.1 updates
