The Proxy server isn't responding error

Hello,

Recently I installed Malwarebytes in my laptop (Windows 8.1) and ran a Threat scan for malware/virus infections (even though Windows Defender is installed by default). After completion of scan and removal process, the Internet explorer browser is facing internet connectivity issue (IE 11) when connected with home wifi. Whenever, I try to search for any website , I'm getting an error as

The proxy server isn't responding *127.0.0.1:8080*

  • Check your proxy settings. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections. If you are on a LAN, click "LAN settings".
  • Make sure your firewall settings aren't blocking your web access.
  • Ask your system administrator for help.

Fix connection problems

Troubleshooting internet problems shows some remote service stopped working "detected".

I have performed all the necessary checks:- sfc scan, reset ipv6,ipconfig but it has let me down.

NOTE: Drivers are updated to the latest version, Automatic detect settings option is check marked (LAN settings)

Any help would be appreciated

TIA

If you check the settings under "Tools > Internet Options > Connections" (under LAN settings), is 'Proxy Server' ticked? If it is, have you tried to un-tick it? If so what happens?

You should probably have 'Automatically Detect Settings' ticked, and 'Proxy Server' un-ticked, unless you need a Proxy Server of course in which case check its set up correctly.

If that doesn't help this should - https://malwaretips.com/blogs/the-proxy-server-isnt-responding-removal/, assuming that is your problem.

If still no joy, try resetting IE - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17441/windows-internet-explorer-change-reset-settings

Changes to IE by the desktop version of IE.

Current settings in my browser is "Automatic Detect Settings" marked tick and "Use a proxy server" is marked un-ticked (Shows error as I mentioned in my question)

When both "Automatic Detect Settings" & "Use a proxy server" is marked un-ticked, the browser gets connected to the internet (which I guess is harmful for my laptop).

From your initial post - 'Troubleshooting internet problems shows some remote service stopped working "detected"', - what specific service(s) does it report?

In the Proxy Server address and port boxes is there anything entered? I.e. Does it show the 127.0.0.1:8080*

Did you try the other links ( malwaretips and IE reset ) I gave?

Troubleshooting with Windows Network Diagnostics shows following problem-

"The remote device or resource won't accept the connection" detected

No proxy server address & port number is entered into the Proxy server option under LAN settings.

Thank you for your kind efforts but the links you've given earlier didn't solve the problem.
