The cloud file provider is not running

Dear,

I am facing an issue with my OneDrive setup. Previously, OneDrive was located on drive C, and I recently changed its location to drive D. Before transferring the files, I had some files that were not synced to the cloud, and after the transfer, those files are now only available on drive C. When attempting to move these files, I receive an error message stating "The cloud file provider is not running," and I am unable to transfer the files to the cloud.

Unfortunately, I cannot move the OneDrive files back to the original location on drive C as it is full, and the total size of the files is 102GB.

Thank you for your assistance in resolving this matter.

Hi, Bilal Matar

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.

I realize that you've encountered a problem about OneDrive space storage and I understand how you feel.

You can try to clean up the C drive, which is an important step to maintain Windows 11 system performance and disc space. Here are some regular options to help you clean up your C drive:

1. Clean up temporary files:

  • Use the ‘Disk Cleanup’ tool that comes with Windows 11. You can search for ‘Disk Cleanup’ in the Windows search bar, then select the disc you want to clean up (usually C drive), and then select the types of files you want to clean up, such as temporary files, downloaded files, etc. o Clean up the browser cache.

  • Clear browser cache: Regularly clearing browser cache files can free up some disc space. o Uninstall unneeded programs: Uninstalling unneed programs can be a good idea.

*Disclaimer: Your browser automatically saves temporary internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix website issues. Please back up all your personal files first, such as Favorites, to ensure you do not lose data.

2. Uninstall unwanted programmes:

  • You can view the list of installed apps and uninstall unwanted apps through the ‘Apps and Features’ option in the ‘Settings’ app. This can free up some disc space.

3. Clean up system files:

  • When using the ‘Disk Cleanup’ tool, you can select the ‘System File Cleanup’ option to clean up system files and temporary files. o When using the ‘Disk Cleanup’ tool, you can select the ‘System File Cleanup’ option to clean up system files and temporary files.

4. Compress files and folders:

  • For large files or folders that are not frequently used, you can use the ‘Compress Files’ feature of Windows 11 to save disc space.

5. Empty the Recycle Bin:

  • Emptying the Recycle Bin regularly can free up disc space occupied by deleted files.

6. Use storage settings:

  • The ‘Storage Settings’ in Windows 11 can help you manage disc space, view disc usage, and suggest cleaning up unneeded files.

Or you can log in to your OneDrive and delete some unimportant files, and then try to save files from your other discs into it.
