Tablet mode gives me no icons on desktop

Anyone have an answer to this one. Running a Surface Pro 1. If I'm not on tablet mode all my icons are on the desktop. If I turn tablet mode on, then select desktop by right clicking the start button, there are no icons, the right click doesn't work and I just have to go back to the metro version. Really appreciate if someone has a simple answer and I'm being stupid.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community.

What you are seeing is exactly how the operating system should behave. In Tablet mode, apps run in full screen mode and Desktop icons will not be visible as the OS will function as a tablet.

Same here, I hate tablet mode even on tablets. It's completely useless.

Hi all

Windows 10 has two different running modes that microsoft in their wisdom have decided not to tell and the answer is in the O/P.

PC Mode wether your on a desktop, laptop or tablet shows the desktop and runs as a pc

TABLET Mode turns off the desktop and other characteristics of the operating system and runs in TABLET mode

I can only presume TABLET mode saves battery life but who knows ? and why would you want to disable part of your operating system ?

It's easy to turn on and off simply tap the search icon (magnifying glass) and search for settings find tablet mode and toggle it off

simples? but i don't see the point
