  • Press Windows key + R key to open the Run dialog.

  • Type perfmon, and click on OK.

  • If prompted by UAC, click/tap on Yes.

  • In the left pane of Performance Monitor, click on Reports to expand it.

Hi Brian,

Make sure your system Windows Updates is up-to-date. Type Windows Updates in search bar and select Check for updates from the results. If updates are available, try installing them and check. Most of the issues could be fixed out of it.

I checked for updates all is OK. I ran a system report this morning  and it got past the 60 seconds and produced a report.... but the old reports were deleted... a good sign the report is working I wonder for how long

thanks I found this bug too and I concluded it started after KB3140768

I see you got a report to save too, with enough fidgeting with the open event trace sessions and so on I can get a report to save too, this windows feature isn't predictable though I haven't isolated a particular event trace session or why it eventually starts working again. I type the perfmon /report command in dozens of times is the other troubleshooting step I've used

The only way I know how to reliably get a report generated is to make a user defined data collector set based on the system diagnostic template.

Go ahead and change the C:\PerfLogs folder owner to Administrators instead of SYSTEM and that will fix it. Sometimes a Windows update will mess with the security settings of folders maybe by design; none the less.
