Been having the same problem on 2 PC and my Mobile fore the last 3-4 days (I did not change nothing the problem just appeared by itself), I also lost all the pictures I had saved in the people app (they just vanished), so something must be wrong with the Microsoft servers, probably something went wrong with the last outlook.com change, my problems certainly seems to have started at the exact same time.

It however seems to sync automatically, but if i press sync I will get the 0x8500201d

error every time on all my units.

So a little help would be appreciated.

This is the exact problem I am experiencing on my W10Mobile Lumia 950.  I open the Outlook Mail app and it seems to sync the emails fine automatically.  However when I hit the sync button, I get the above error message.  I also noticed my calendar is not syncing as well.  I hope the solution is NOT to reset the phone.  Every time I do a complete reset, something ends up getting damaged.  Usually it's my SD card.

Hi All,

I have the same issue on my win10 pc and my windows phone.

I had similar problem with the OneDrive as well, but it got sorted out when I somehow pushed it to ask for a onetime code.

Did anyone managed to resolve this one with email?

Thanks,

Suad

I also have this issue.

It doesn't seem to have trouble syncing though - I can see new mails coming in but the error message is displayed every time anyway.

Not a bad idea. Gmail works like a charm in the Mail app, and is also faster.

I'm getting same error every time I try to a manual sync.

I was seeing the 0x8500201d error before today but not every time I did a manual sync.

The only thing I did different yesterday was to logon to outlook.com with my sons laptop to see info for a contact because I forgot my IPhone. My emails are being sent and received. The account is my primary MS account so I can't delete and re-add it: there is no option to delete it.

I'm having the exact same problem on my Surface Pro 3, but oddly enough the problem doesn't exist on my Desktop computer. I've performed a clean install (from USB) of the Anniversary update and the problem comes back after performing a simple restart. I even switched my Windows 10 account into a "Local Account". That fixed the sync issue, but I prefer to have an MS account; after switching back, the problem reappears. My guess is an issue with the contacts syncing into the People app. I disabled it in the settings and now, sync works perfectly fine in the mail app. I do believe it's an issue with the People app causing sync to fail in the Mail app. So to those of you who are experiencing 0x8500201d; turn off contacts in the settings and things should be working fine.

Edit: You might not see this option in the settings; the only way to retrieve this option is to remove the account and re-add it.
