Hi rararaca,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Based on the original description, we understand that your device is experiencing abnormal audio service usage.

Audio service usage as high as 10% is not a common situation. It may mean damage to the service, damage to the profile, or indirect interference from the driver/extra process.

Generally, you can try to use more professional tools to check if there is other information associated with the process. For example, process monitor.

If possible, would you mind sharing more information about this issue with us?

  •  Were there any special events in the device before the situation first occurred?

For example, system update, driver update, application update, BIOS update, firmware update?

  • The original description mentioned "other windows troubleshoots".

Do these include clean boot, new local profile or generic audio driver?

    Example of generic driver

Clean Boot starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It can be used to determine whether a background service or program is interfering or causing a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step.

Please be careful not to disable any services that may be related to security credentials or security authentication, such as TPM, Security, Credential.

If I misunderstand your situation, feel free to correct me and share the information.

Best Regards,

I ran the process monitor and this is basically what is shows

I think windows might have updated around the time the problem came but I'm not sure if the problem started right after the update.

These are the updates installed around the time when the problem came.

I have tried the generic windows audio driver but that didn't fix the problem.

Also the problem still occurred when I did a clean boot.

Hi rararaca,

Thank you for getting back to us.

It appears that there have been some changes to the software environment.

If possible, you can try uninstalling recent updates to narrow down the troubleshooting. (Not necessarily limited to the parts listed in the diagram)

In addition, is the situation the same in a relatively clean environment?
