Sudden FPS Drops on Windows 10

So I have had this Dell G7 15 Gaming laptop for about 4 months and have been playing games on it since the start. About 1 month ago I started encountering sudden FPS drops on one of my games and ignored at first. But the problem was very consistent I would face FPS drops about every 5 mins with frame rates sometimes dropping to as low as 10 for a time period of about 15 seconds.

At first, I thought this was a problem I was facing while playing only 1 game but soon I realized that the problem is not with the game but with windows itself since I'm facing the same problem on every game.

I tried many solutions including updating my driver,  reinstalling my driver, reinstalling my game, lowering my graphics setting and changing my Registry settings however nothing is able to solve this problem and now my game would not even go beyond 40 FPS while it was running on 120 about a month ago with no problems.

I'm considering resetting my laptop in hopes of going back to my previous setting with this being my last option before I do so. Please help.

Dell makes several models of the Dell G7, what is the exact model you have?

No, I noticed no change in gameplay.

I have noticed a quick rise in temperature as soon as I start a game which seems to be too high.

First, try restarting your graphics driver:
Press Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B

If that does not work...

Press Windows key + X
Click Device Manager
Expand Display adapters
Right click the current display adapter
Click Properties
Click Driver tab
Click Rollback driver if the option is available

If not
Right click the current display adapter
Click Uninstall
Check the box that says, "Delete the driver software for this device.”
Exit Device Manager
Restart

Go to Start -> Settings -> Update & security, then Check for updates and install any available updates.

If that does not work, I recommend you wait until Windows 10 1903 is released over the coming weeks and upgrade to that release to see if it helps.

I had this same laptop and same issue, it started after I updated the BIOS to 1.5.0.  I opened a ticket with Dell and worked for about a month with them via email and on the phone multiple times and no fix.  They did end up removing that BIOS update so obviously they figured out that was causing problems and released a 1.6.0 one that was supposed to fix it.  It helped but instead of dropping down to about 5-10fps it was dropping to 15-20 so it was still there.  I fought with them more and ended up getting them to refund me after 3 months of ownership.  So if you are still fighting this, I'd suggest fighting them for the same as I no longer trust them and that they will fix that issue.  Good luck!
