Stuck into BSOD loop after driver update in windows 10 (build 1803).

I have been updating the drivers for my system. And I installed a few drivers on my laptop and then restarted windows.

Now when I am restarting the laptop, screen goes to blue background and showing the error message

"Your PC ran into a problem and needs a restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you."

I thought it's going to restart fine after this, but this screens keeps popping in the loop for an hour now.

I even tried accessing Recovery Mode in windows but couldn't, as it keeps hanging on ERROR MESSAGE BLUE SCREEN and then restarts again.

Error message image : STOP CODE: SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED

                                      WHAT FAILED : APPLEUSBVHCI.sys  Image

I completely stuck in this loop :

Starts -> blue screen -> restarts -> system Automatically tries to enter "Automatic Recovery" -> start again -> again blue screen.

I don't know what went wrong, and have no idea that just a driver update could led to this issue in windows 10.

I haven't backed up the important data on my system so, Is there anyway I can resolve this without losing the data.

Please help me with this issue.

Hi TusharRawat -

I'm Jerico T., one of the Independent Advisor and a fellow Windows 10 user like you. I understand that you're having some issues right now and I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Let us sort things out.

Actually, it's hard to find a specific reason why computer crashes in to the Blue Screen error of Death (BSOD) it can be windows missing files, system files got corrupted, hardware issue or hardware driver issue. There are methods that can be perform and check if any of the resolve fixes the issue.

Please boot your computer in safemode. Click the link below and follow the steps provided in booting your computer on safemode.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/sta...

On safemode, perform the methods below and check if any of the methods fixes the issue.

Method 1: Perform SFC Scan and Repair Windows Image
-This process will perform scan for any corrupted system files or integrity violation and will attempt to repair it along with the Windows Image.

1. Open command prompt with administrator access
2. Type each command below and wait until scan is completed.

* sfc /scannow
* DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
* DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
* DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Quick note: While the command is running, it's expected to see the process stuck at 20 or 40 percent. After a few minutes, the process will complete successfully.

Once you complete the steps, the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool will connect to the Windows Update servers to download and replace any damaged files in the local image for Windows 10 as necessary.

3. Close the command prompt. Restart your computer and check if it fixes the issue.

Method 2: Perform Clean Boot
- This process will eliminate 3rd party application running in the background of your computer along with services that are not needed to run windows. If there's any conflicting 3rd party application that causes the issue on your computer, this process will stop it.

1. Open the run box by pressing the Windows Key + R and type msconfig
2. System Configuration Utility box will open and by default you are on general tab.
3. On the General tab, click the selective startup and make sure that load system service and load startup items both have checked mark.
4. Click on services tab
5. Put a check mark on Hide All Microsoft Services > This is a very important part as if you miss to click on this, computer might not boot properly or permanently and will end up on clean installation.
6. Once Hide all Microsoft Services have checked mark on it, click on Disable All
7. Click on the Startup Tab and click open task manager. This will open another window which contains all your startup applications on the administrator account.
8. Disable all application that you're not using. You can simply just click on them and select disable.
9. Click OK , Apply and close the configuration utility.
10. Restart your computer and check if it resolve the issue.

Method 3: System Restore
- System restore is where it will take your computer settings back to an earlier point in time where everything is working fine.

1. Open the run box by pressing Windows Key + R and type rstrui.exe then press enter.
2. System restore windows will open. Normally it will suggest a restore point(Sometimes it doesn't), if it does, select the 2nd option to select more restore points.
3. Select your desired restore point date and time.
4. Once selected, hit next and finish.

Windows will restart itself to start system restore. System restore might take some time to complete and it is very important that system restore must not be interrupted during restore process as it might damaged the operating system. System restore will take at least 20 minutes or more depending on the content of the computer and the changes on the settings that was done prior to the date selected. System restore will also removed application , updates and drivers installed prior to the date selected.

DISCLAIMER:
System Restore is a recovery tool for Windows that allows you to reverse certain kinds of changes made to the operating system. System Restore is used to return important Windows files and settings—like drivers, registry keys, system files, installed programs, and more—back to previous versions and settings. Being said all applications and changes made prior to the date selected will be removed and needs to be re-installed if its needed.

Feel free to reach us back if the methods provided did not work.

Hope this help. Have a good day.

Thank you.

From the given link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-your-pc-in-safe-mode-in-windows-10-92c27cff-db89-8644-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234 you have posted to access SAFE MODE.

First two methods are not applicable in my case as I am not able to access settings and sign-in screen, to enter into safe mode, because I am stuck in the loop of BSOD error screen.

And I have already tried 3rd method(repeatedly turn your device off 3 times) to access automatic recovery mode and then go to  safe which is also not working as it automatically exits the windows RE mode and restarts again on

BSOD Error.

Is there any other way to access SAFE MODE?

what to do now?

Hi TusharRawat -

Thank you for your quick response. Let's try to boot your computer in safemode using different method with similar steps to be done. Please click the link below, another Independent Advisor has provided steps on how to boot your computer to safemode.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Once you have booted your computer in safemode, please perform the methods I have provided in the previous reply. If in any case you're still unable to boot your machine in safemode, perform custom install.

Click the link below and follow the steps provided for custom install.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Note: Custom Install is different from Clean Install.

Feel free to reach us back if the steps provided above did not work.

Hope this help. Have a good day.

I tried all the methods but nothing worked for me.

Issue/Reasons why the both of the given solution links are not working.

Solution 1 Safe mode Failed:  All the methods are not applicable in my case as I cannot get into safe mode not even using automatic recovery mode because after windows get into automatic recovery mode it shuts down and restart and again get into BSOD loop.

Solution 2 Custom install Failed:  I don't know why this method failed but it did, the steps I performed are given below,

1. I downloaded media creation tool in a working PC.

2. Installed this tool.

3. Created the Windows installation media in pen-drive of size 32GB in PC.

4. Then inserted this media into my HP laptop which was not working.

5. power on -> clicked to esc to enter into BIOS -> clicked f9 to enter bios device options -> Select boot from USB Drive-Sandisk.

6. Followed instructions on screen to install windows in primary C drive
7. After waiting for around 4hours 30mins laptop restarted Successfully, And it was asking to login, but when I tried to logged in it said password is incorrect, though it was correct, than I tried to select login from microsoft account but here also it was showing that the password is incorrect.
So I restarted it again.

And guess what happened next on restarting, it started giving me a error message that  the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows  installation cannot  proceed. To install windows click OK to restart the computer and then restart the installation.
So now when I select Ok and again the same message, now while solving the BSOD error loop now I am stuck in this new error loop, after doing this process of custom install for 5-6 hours.

I have no idea what went wrong in second method.
After doing this custom installation I am able to get into automatic repair, but now to access anything like system recovery image, system restore it asking for password. And saying that password is wrong though it's correct.

Now what should I do:

Custom installation using ISO files ?
Clean install ?
Reset windows ?

Or anything else, like taking out hard-drive and copying data to other system and then reset.

I want to know difference between all of them and which one has the better possibility of preserving data files of system.

I am totally stuck and have no idea what to do next.
please help.

Hi TusharRawat -

Thank you for the response and I apologize for the delayed on my end.
Usually, Custom Install do not require to login your password because once the custom install gone successfully, your computer should ask you to create a new profile. It seems that the attempt for custom install failed, can you please try to perform it again and let me know if it worked. If not we will perform another method and that is the Clean Install.

Don't hesitate to reach us back for further assistance. We will monitor your concern.

Regard,
Jerico T.

There are 2 options while installing windows using custom install again.

Choose An Operating system:

1. windows 10

(on volume 3)

2. windows 10

(on volume 3)

3. Change Defaults or choose other options:

    1.Change the timer

2.Choose a default Operating system Current default: Windows 10( on volume 3)

         1. windows 10

        (on volume 3)

        2. windows 10
        (on volume 3)

    3.Choose other options

which one should I pick?

Thanks for your assistance Jerico T.

I have custom installed the windows 10 (version 20H2) successfully. The whole UI got changed and all the application/installed software and it's data got deleted.

But I still couldn't get to my old data and the laptop is lagging too much.

MAJOR CONCERNS :

1.   When I access some data files in folder windows.old:

     Some data is accessible like "windows.old\Program files\", "windows.old\program                   files(x86)".

But other data files are not accessible as when I go to path Windows.old\User\Tushar

     Here, It says

you don't currently have permission to access this folder click continue to permanently      get access

than I clicked yes and it takes forever to load and then doesn't open, and size of this                folder is also shown as 0 bytes in properties.

So how do I get access to my Desktop and Downloads under windows\user\Tushar ?

2.  After custom installing this latest version of windows 10( version 20H2), all the usuallclicks       and other things are lagging and taking a lot of time to open, even opening microsoft                 edge(which comes pre-installed in windows 10) is taking a lot of time to open.

So the complete laptop has become pretty slow, and hangs at every sec.

So what should I do now ?

Hi TusharRawat -

Thank you for your response. Does the hard drive memory capacity of your computer shows high usage of memory? If so, can you try to access those folders in safemode. Once you booted your computer in safemode, please follow the steps on the link below.

Thanks Jerico T., I changed the access permission of the folder windows.old\Users\Tushar, and now can access the old data under Desktop and Downloads.

Other issues due to custom windows 10 install:

Username path in C:\Users\ got changed automatically from C:\Users\Tushar            to C:\Users\tusha somehow on this new custom install of windows 10 (version 20H2).

I want to change this username back to (C:\Users\Tushar) and correct this path under C: drive.
