Strange Pop-Up - Possible Virus

This box started popping up on my screen. I click the X to close it but it pops up again a few minutes later. Is it a virus? How do I get rid of it?

Hi WG48,

I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.

Yes, it could be caused by malware or virus.
I will first recommend that you run Windows Defender Scan or Microsoft Safety Scanner scan(https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/securi...).

Let me know how it goes.
Thanks.

Thanks, Paul. Downloaded the Microsoft Saftey Scanner and ran it. It didn't find anything. I did get a translation of the strange script. It's in Japanese and says "Error X. An unknown error has occurred. Exit the application. OK."

I Wasn't running an application when the box popped up. Could it be something running in the background? And why would it be in Japanese. Any other suggestions to try?

Can you check the Task Manager for any unknown process/program when the Pop-up error appears?

Open Task Manager(Ctrl+Shift+Esc) > click Details tab > check for any suspicious process that is running.

I will also suggest that you perform Clean Boot. If the issue doesn't persist in the clean boot it means the issue might be caused by a non-Microsoft program. Refer to this link.

Thanks, Paul. I did a clean boot and the pop-up hasn't happened for 2 days. Guess I can now turn on the start up processes one by one to see which one is causing the problem. Glad it wasn't a virus.
