storport.sys driver DPC issues (sound)

Recently I've been have in' serious sound issues, and no one has been able to help me yet. I don't want to reinstall windows, since it will take me days to get my PC back to where it is now. I also don't want it because I have read that in most cases, reinstalling windows doesn't solve the issue.

I've already tried the following:
-Latest BIOS update,
-Reinstalled/updated drivers, even rolled back a couple of times,
-Disabled all enhancements.

I have also run a LatencyMon run:

CONCLUSION
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.
LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for  0:09:38  (h:mm:ss) on all processors.

CPU SPEED
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Reported CPU speed:                                   180 MHz

Note: reported execution times may be calculated based on a fixed reported CPU speed. Disable variable speed settings like Intel Speed Step and AMD Cool N Quiet in the BIOS setup for more accurate results.

WARNING: the CPU speed that was measured is only a fraction of the CPU speed reported. Your CPUs may be throttled back due to variable speed settings and thermal issues. It is suggested that you run a utility which reports your actual CPU frequency and temperature.

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   101396.10
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   23.194629

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs):       101389.20
Average measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs):       17.008136

 REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Process with highest pagefault count:                 chrome.exe

Total number of hard pagefaults                       23524
Hard pagefault count of hardest hit process:          5388

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We will need few more details so that we can narrow down to the root cause of the issue and assist you with appropriate troubleshooting steps.

  1. May I know if you are face the sound issue during specific task or when you run certain program?

  2. Are you not getting any sound or do you only get audio latency?

  3. Are you aware of any recent changes made on the system or BIOS?

Below are few of the troubleshooting steps you can try and check if that helps you.

Method 1: Manually installing driver from manufacturer.

I suggest you to download and install the latest driver that is released by Dell for Audio and also for Dell power Manager Service under System Management drivers also update the chipset driver that are recently released.

Method 2: Disable hardware acceleration.

Kindly follow these steps and check if you have hardware acceleration for audio is present and enabled. If so, disable it:

  1. Press Windows + R key on your keyboard together.

  2. Type in mmsys.cpl and hit enter.

  3. Click on your Audio source and Click on Properties.

  4. Click on Advanced tab.

  5. Uncheck Allow hardware acceleration of audio with this device.

  6. Click on Apply and Ok and check if the audio is working fine.

If you need any further help, please reply to this post with requested information.

Hi,

Thank you for the response.

May I know if you have tried the troubleshooting steps and what was the result of it?

We are still researching on your issue, the storeport.sys error occurs when the system gets to no boot due to hard driver issue, if you get the same error, you can try updating your disk driver from the device manger by expanding the disk driver’s category.

From the device manager check for IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and update the drivers also check for Storage controllers expand and update the drivers.

Also please help us provide the minidump file which is located in C:\Windows\minidump folder, so that we can analyze the logs and help you provide appropriate troubleshooting steps.

Hi,

Thank you for the response.

Thank you for providing the screenshot, I see that you have a Storage controller listed, please expand the Storage controller by clicking on the small arrow or by hitting the right arrow key when it is selected. After that you can follow the steps to updating the driver.

Please check the private message on how to upload minidump file.

If you still face the issue, reply to this post with more information.
