SSD windows C: keep eating up space on its own

Hello, i just bought a laptop yesterday with windows 10 installed.

Recently, i downloaded steam gaming app on the windows C: solid state drive.

The space of my windows C: ssd is 118 gb. After downloading and

installing the steam app it took quite a lot of space in my C: drive

then i decided to remove it to data D: .

I cut and pasted all the steam folders to D:

it could not transfer all the file to data D: because of certain problems,

so i pressed the skip button.

After transfering all the steam files to data D:, the steam app and the

games could not be opened because some of the files were untransferable

during the transfer process.

Then i decided to uninstall all the steam and games on the control panel/

program/programs and features.

after uninstalling, i dowloaded back all the games.

After reinstalling all steam and games on my D: drive, i found out that

my windows C: ssd keep filling up space with no reason. i have tried the disk

clean up several times but it does not work and the space keep filling up.

I do not know much about computer systems and programs.

Can anyone please help me solve this problem because i may not be able

to install anymore software on the ssd windows C: when its all filled up.

Treesize should give you an idea of what is taking up the space:
https://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/
There is an ongoing issue with a file in Windows/Logs folder named CBS.log keeps on increasing(can go up to GBs in size). If Treesize says that it is eating up the space, simply delete the file(You might have to stop Windows Module Installer service first)

Hi Umar. I'm Greg, a volunteer installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Unless you're installing the games to another SSD then you're defeating it's faster speed for the games you install to a hard drive. Only files are suited to be moved off C on an SSD without slowing things down. See how to move User folders here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1964-move-u...

There is an issue with CBS log ballooning to huge size caused by a temp file that is not deleted by Disk Cleanup but must be deleted manually following the same method as when the bug arose in Windows 7: https://www.computerworld.com/article/3112358/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Umar -

Is D on the SSD? If so then your games are on the fastest drive so no problem.

Please post a screenshot of Disk Management, which we read like a doctor reads X-rays: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/foru...

Check that the CBS log bug I wrote about earlier is not affecting you by seeing what the size is of C:\Windows\logs.

If you want to get a picture of your drives and what is taking place install Treesize and look at the map it creates to see what's taking up space: Type Treesize into Start Search, open the Store page and install the app.

It's possible you just need to resize C and D to equalize the space more, if they are on the same drive. An excellent app to do this is free Partition Wizard using it's Extend function which can borrow space from any partition to another: http://partitionwizard.com/video-help/extend_pa...

Also Disk Cleanup has an important feature to clean up System files that are used in staging Windows Updates and version Updates which take up huge amounts of space, so if you don't have any problems with recent Updates you can run it from Disk Cleanup, choosing to include System Files.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Can you expand the Name column and then post back the Image?
Though a rough look shows windows.old is eating up space.

1) D is not on the ssd

2) screenshot of disk management

3) (Check that the CBS log bug I wrote about earlier is not affecting you by seeing what the size is of C:\Windows\logs.)

I tried following the instrcutions on the CBS log, it says to press stop under service and click OK

I cant press the stop button or is it already stopped?

so then it says  :

Step 6. For good measure, delete all the "cab*" files in your Windows Temp folder, typically C:\Windows\Temp. Makecab won't ever delete them, so you get to.

i do not have the permission but should i just access the file?

I stopped there beacuse im afraid i do not have permission to access the file.

This is Treesize scan of windows C:

Please tell me what to do next, I really appreciate your help. Thank you
