Srttrail.txt error & backup files on Windows 8.1

Hi guys,

My laptop suffers the srttrail.txt error. I contacted Lenovo service center, they asked me to take the hard disk out and backup all the files to another computer, then perform factory reset.  However, when I connect my laptop's hard disk to my desktop PC (using an external case), some of my files suppose in laptop "desktop" folder are missing (I'm sure I didn't drop the hard disk or delete anything)! Can anyone of you advice me how to restore these files? It's very important for me.

No, I wasn't able to process the backup because I'm not able to startup the Windows. So I bought a converter to convert my laptop hard-disk to external hard-disk, plug in to my desktop PC, see if I can copy and paste my documents. But some of the files under Desktop folders can't be retrieved, do you have any idea?
