Spinning dots on Windows 10 Boot !HELP!

Hey all, looking for support with this one so I can get back to enjoying my computer during isolation!

For the past 3 days my desktop computer has been stuck on the Windows 10 boot screen with the windows logo with spinning dots, and also sometimes just a black screen with spinning dots. Its a bit of an old rig so can try remember the specs if needed but it had been working fine for the past weeks! Hoping its a quick fix that I just haven't figured out yet.

I did update Nvidia drivers recently but I feel from memory that it worked fine for a little bit since I had updated them. I have tried everything possible online, including starting in safe mode which turns out to be a chore within itself because the loading of the start up is so god damn slow.

Any help is very very very appreciated! I just want to jam some Bannerlord

Hello!

I'm your Independent Advisor for today. We'll try some steps to get your PC up and running ASAP.

You can perform a system restore to revert the PC to a working state. The said step will undo whatever changes that were made to it, like installing apps or Windows Updates:

1, Turn off the PC if it isn't already.
2. Turn on the PC. When you see the Windows/manufacturer logo and the spinning dots, turn it off right away using the power button on the laptop/tower.
3. Repeat Step 2 until you see a "Preparing automatic repair" message.
4. On the "Automatic repair" screen, click Advanced options.
5. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore
6. Click Next.
7. Select a restore point dated prior to the problem, then hit Next. If you don't see your preferred restore point, click "Show more restore points" and choose from there.
8. Click Finish.

System restore will take a while to complete. Please make sure not to interrupt this process. Once completed, please try to use the PC and check if the issue is resolved. You can also use other recovery options to boot your PC normally.

Please reply whatever the results.

Hey mate cheers for the reply,

Just followed your steps and all went well until I got to the 'Diagnosing Your PC' Screen where the dots froze for almost 30 mins, will it eventually fix itself and I'm being inpatient or does that help in anyway to the problem?

Appreciate the help!

Are there other restore points you can choose? If there's none, please start the computer in safe mode:
1, Turn off the PC if it isn't already.
2. Turn on the PC. When you see the Windows/manufacturer logo and the spinning dots, turn it off right away using the power button on the laptop/tower.
3. Repeat Step 2 until you see a "Preparing automatic repair" message.
4. On the "Automatic repair" screen, click Advanced options.
5. On the "Choose an option" screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings
6. Click Restart.
7. Press 5 or F5 to boot in safe mode with networking
8. Sign in to the PC using the password associated to the account.

This will boot the PC in safe mode with only the basic apps and services running, and with the network device enabled. The device should have a working internet connection in this mode.

Please tell me if this works and we'll continue troubleshooting in this mode.

No "automatic repair screen".  Only spinning dots with the words Preparing Automatic Repair below them.

Let's try using a Windows 10 installation flash drive and boot from it, then we'll use recovery options from there.

Kindly prepare the following use to create your Windows 10 media:
1. A second PC with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 installed.
2. A DVD or flash drive with at least 8GB capacity.

Once ready, do the following:
1. Download and create your Windows 10 media using a flash drive by following the steps in this link:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

2.Boot the PC from the flash drive. Kindly check this link for the boot menu keys for various manufacturers:
https://www.sysnative.com/forums/threads/get-ac...

3. Once booted from the flash drive, click "Repair your computer".

From here, you can access recovery options, please choose safe mode with networking and see if it boots from there.

Please reply whatever the results.

Hey mate,

System tried restoring again, and said the same message:

"System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.

Details:

System Restore failed while scanning the file system on the drive E:/

The drive might be corrupt. You might want to retry System Restore after running chkdsk /R on this disk.

An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x80070017)

You can try System Restore again and choose a different restore point. If you continue to see this error, you can try an advanced recovery method."

Again, there was only one restore point to select and no alternative. I am trying to start in safe mode with networking now through starting up with the USB drive.
