Sound quality issue on windows 11 when mic is active.

Hi,

I have an issue on my Windows 11 desketop that I can't fix for months now.

I use a bluetooth headset with my PC. The sound quality is good and everything works well.

When I start using the mic included in my headset, wheather it's with discord, teams, zoom or other, I suddently have a massive decrease in sound quality. The sound is "messy" and is also louder. I can't really take it quieter. Even if I try to lower the volume, it stays very loud.

This lasts while my mic is on.

When I stop using it, after like 2-3 seconds, the sound is back to normal again.

I have tries many different things like uninstalling device etc. nothing worked.

Does someone have a solution to this issue ? I would be very grateful.

Bests,

Gaspard

Hi,
I'm Rodrigo and I'll help you.
This is a limitation of how the Bluetooth headsets work. When the microphone is in use, the headset enters Hands-free mode, the hands-free mode has a lower audio quality to handle both audio input and output.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to use the microphone and the high-quality audio mode (Stereo mode) simultaneously, the headset will always change to Hands-free mode.

The workaround is to disable the headset microphone on WIndows and use another microphone instead of the headset microphone.
If I helped you anyway, It makes me happy.

Oh, really ?

That's a shame because it makes it impossible to use considering how bad the quality is. I didn't exepect it's a normal behaviour considering I have 0 issues using it with my Mac. But if it's the way it is on windows...

Thank you for your answer anyway.

Gaspard

Read the AirPods fine print --- it will say that it REQUIRES certain specific generation of iphones or iOS.

If it requires specific hardware or OS, then it is not Bluetooth.

Or that you buy a Bose wireless headphones and it requires you to install the Bose app on your phone in order to use certain functions --- then those functions are not Bluetooth. Same thing for Sony wireless headphones with Sony app. If it requires an app, then it is not Bluetooth.

This is why wireless gaming headsets have their own wireless dongles because gamers wants to hear stereo sound AND talk at the same time.
