Sony bluetooth headphones have static when connected to Dell laptop

Hi, my Sony wf-1000xm4 headphones have a crackling, static noise when connected to my Dell G5 15 5590 laptop that's running Windows 10, they sound fine when connected to my phone, I also had a different model of Sony headphones (WF-C500) that did this as well. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I'm Louie, and I'm happy to help you today. Hope you're doing well and safe there.

I'm sorry that you're having trouble with your Audio. I would recommend first running the troubleshooter with the headphones connected. This tool is designed to check for any misconfiguration on your drivers and repair them for you.

In the search box on the taskbar,
- Type audio troubleshooter, select Fix and find problems with playing sound from the results, then click on Next.
- Select the device you want to troubleshoot and then continue through the troubleshooter.

You may also launch the troubleshooter from audio Settings.
Select Start > Settings > System > Sound > Troubleshoot.

If you're still having issues with audio, you can refer to this support article for further troubleshooting.

Since it is connected via Bluetooth, you may also Bluetooth troubleshooter.

Select Start , then select Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot . In Find and fix other problems, select Bluetooth, and then select Run the troubleshooter and follow the instructions.

Hi Jamie!

I'm sorry if the steps didn't work. It seems that the issue is complex than what I expected.

It may be best if I release your question to other advisors so they can take a look at it and let them share some other ways that can fix the issue.

You take care and keep safe always.

Sincerely,
Louie

Hello Jamie. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

2) Go to Settings > Devices > Autoplay to look for the device and change the default behavior in it's Dropdown Menu.

3) Right click Volume icon in System Tray at right end of task bar, Open Sounds Settings, in dropdown menus at top make sure Headphones are selected and Connected for both Playback and Recording Default Devices.

If not again right click Volume icon in System Tray to choose Troubleshoot sound problems.

4) Go to the Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button, choose Sound controller device, on Driver tab choose Update Driver > Automatically. If that doesn't help try Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick to try all previously installed drivers. If not then try Uninstall, restart PC using keyboard to Ctrl Alt Del, on blue screen tab to Power Icon in bottom right, press Enter, arrow down to Restart, press Enter to restart to reinstall the driver.

Do the same for the headset device and/or it's microphone.

5) Update the Sound driver from the PC or Device maker's Support downloads web page. While there also check that the Chipset, BIOS, Display, USB, Network and all other drivers are the most current.

6) Sometimes it helps to unpair or disconnect all other Bluetooth devices from the PC in Bluetooth settings, then try again to connect the headset.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
