Sold wrong windows 10 key type and cannot migrate to drive.

I am currently trying to move windows 10 from a 1tb drive to a 256gb drive and I do not want to uninstall 800gb of storage. My solution was to just reinstall windows on the new drive and swap the key over to the fresh download but my key says its an OEM key so I cant move it. I am just moving drives, not computers. When I bought the key, I went to a windows store and bought a retail windows key from the windows store, but somehow I got an OEM key and now I cant migrate windows without spending more money. Is there a solution?

Hello

Did you ZIP the files when you moved them to the cloud and remember the name of the extract. ?

Hi, I am Van. I'll be glad to assist you today.

Regardless of whether its an OEM or retail license, you should be able to reactivate Windows since you are only replacing the hard drive.

May I ask the error your receive when you try to reactivate the system?
