Snipping tool - screen turns to grey after choosing form (like rectangular)

This is the second time this has happened to me...first time it just "fixed itself"...while I was in contact w/microsoft (agent said he hadn't "done anything")....

I Click on snipping tool, choose New, choose shape...screen goes grey, so I cannot snip what I want to copy...

I think this might be related to allowing remote access (to remove viruses, etc.) but that is just a guess...

Anyone else have this problem?
