SERVICE HOST: CONNECTED DEVICES PLATFORM USER SERVICE very high power usage

Image

This service is consuming 15-20% CPU All the time (but never beyond 25%) on my laptop (Dell XPS 15 7590) & its very annoying becuase this triggers fan noise even while doing minimal tasts on my computer & also consumes battery life

I have referred to other posts around the forum and have already tried the following CMD commands

Sfc.exe /scannow
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Any help would be much apreciated, TIA

Hello! I am an Independent Advisor, I would love to help you out!

Has this been happening since you got the laptop? Or has it started happening recently?

If it started happening recently and updates have installed recently that I would suggest to rollback the updates:

Start > Settings and click on Update & Security.

Click the Recovery link on the left and then click on Get started under 'Go back to the previous version of Windows 10.'

Thanks for the info. How long have you had the laptop?
You could try to disable the service and see if any errors occur, there are some services that depend on it, but they may not be needed.

To do this you can go to service.msc, find connected devices platform service, right click it and select disable.

If everything seems to be fine after a while you can then go back, right click > properties > change the startup type to disabled.

I disabled the service on my own computer for the last few minutes and have seen no negative impact yet.

After disabling the startup type I would recommend restarting your computer and then seeing if there are any issues, or if the issue is gone.

You can also see a little bit more information about this service here:

While this normally resolves the problem, after the latest Windows update, I get a message that the system cannot go back to a previous version.

Any suggestions on how to stop to stop the constant the fan noise? My computer is a Dell 2330 (all in one).

I have had this laptop for a month now , it came with windows 10 home which I upgraded to pro.

I have followed ur instructions and disabled the service. However, there were two of them, one ends with """"_5f968 and although I have stopped this service , I am unable to disable its automatic startup from properties, it gives an error saying that parameter in incorrect.

I will restart my computer now.

I get the same error on that one. After the computer restarts let me know if you still seem to be seeing the issue or anything else after you have some time to test.

Do you have any devices connected to your computer such as USB devices, bluetooth devices, etc?

If so I would recommend to unplug everything, turn off bluetooth on the laptop, restart and see if there is still a problem.

This would more help isolate if this is an issue with just the OS or if it is coupled with some piece of hardware as well.

So I thought of this earlier, given that I use a wireless mouse connected through usb dongle, but the problem exists despite removing everything. only thing my laptop is connected with is the wifi.

I have not tried running safe mode, I can try if u think it can help ?
