Screen automatically scrolling up and down with mouse turned off

I've been searching for fixes to this problem. It is really creating problems for me with work.

My screen will automatically scroll to the right and up automatically. It doesn't seem to do it when I'm on a website or with a PDF. But it will with Word documents, drop down menus for Windows and anything that long and needs to be scrolled through. I even have a special app that I use for work. And when signing back in (after I restarted my computer to see if that would help), I had to sign into my app.. One of the boxes with a drop down menu just kept scrolling.

I tried adjusting my mouse settings. That didn't help. I even turned off my mouse and navigated with my arrows. But the places that were scrolling on their own continued to scroll even though my mouse was turned off.

It's driving me crazy and it's making me unable to work because it won't allow me to scroll down to the beginning of my document.

Thank you for your help!

Holly

EDIT: After posting this, on a whim, I tried pulling out all of the USB hubs that control my wireless mouse and wireless keyboard. This seems to have solved the problem. I don't know how it started in the first place, but it seems to have reset it self after I did this.

Hi, Holly Portillo

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Glad to hear that you have found a solution to your problem. Based on your description, it looks like the problem may be caused by the USB receiver for the wireless mouse and keyboard. Sometimes, USB devices can malfunction or have an unstable connection, causing anomalies such as the screen scrolling automatically.

Here is some information you may need to know:

The USB receiver of your wireless device may malfunction for various reasons (e.g. electromagnetic interference, hardware failure, etc.).

Re-plugging the USB receiver into the computer or replacing the USB port can sometimes solve the problem.

If the problem recurs, you can try restarting your computer or replacing the batteries in your wireless mouse and keyboard.

The fact that your problem has now been resolved is certainly the best news!

You are welcome to visit the Microsoft Community again if you encounter any other issues in the future.

Have a nice day!

Best Regards

I have a similar problem but my wireless mouse is new and does not have a USB receiver. Neither can I put batteries in because they are a sealed unit.
