Safe to delete my windows.old folder?

Hi everyone.

I recently upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit.

My HP Pavilion dv5 laptop only has a 250 GB hard drive, but the window.old folder takes about 30 gigs of space.

My questions are:
1) Is it safe to delete this windows.old folder?
2) Would I be able to revert back to Vista using my HP System Recovery DVD? The DVD says it will restore the laptop to original factory settings.

Thank you everyone!

Answer
You are very welcome.

To the best of my knowledge both are correct. I haven't yet deleted my windows.old on Win 7 because I haven't had time to verify that nothing is missing, but I did when I upgraded to Vista with no problems.

(2) is absolutely correct as you will need that partition to recover Vista if you ever have a critical fail. However, if you are stable now and have a good disk image you may not ever need it, but if you delete it Murphy's law will make sure the worst possible scenario occurs. Personally I will never delete my recovery partition because something bad could happen on both the primary drive and the image at the same time.
