running chkdsk in windows 10

when entering the following:  winkey + x  then  chkdsk C: /f /r /x  the system says it cannot lock the disk due to in use by other processes, then asks if I want to run on next restart.  I answer yes.   then exit the command prompt,  then restart.

On next restart chkdsk does not run, the system boots normally.

So....... how do I get this to execute?????

Answer
Answer

Right click the Start icon and right click Command Prompt (Admin) on the menu list. Type cd\ and press the ENTER. key Type "chkdsk c: /r" without the quotes and press the ENTER key. Make sure you include the spaces indicated. Enter Y when asked whether you wish to run chkdsk on restarting the computer. Type exit, press the ENTER key and restart the computer.

You may need to add Command Prompt to the Win+X menu.
