Restore audio device on my computer

I accidently deleted my audio device on my laptop so now I have no sound.  How can I fix this problem?

What is the make and model of your computer?

First, run the Playing audio troubleshoot - open Start > Settings > Update & security > Troubleshoot
Scroll down, select Playing audio
Click Run the troubleshooter

When complete, restart your computer then check if audio is working again.

Press Windows key + X
Click Device Manager
Expand Sound, video and game controllers

Right click your audio adapter
Click Properties
Click the Driver tab

Is there an option rollback?
If so, click it.

Also, check to make sure the audio driver is fully updated. This is often the problem when you upgrade to a new version of Windows 10. Sometimes reinstalling the latest available driver from the manufacturers website helps.

Open Start, type: change sound card
Select the Playback
Right click your Speakers
Click Set as Default Device if it isn't already

Select your speakers
Click Properties
Click the Levels tab
Use the slider to adjust level

Hi Joanne. I'm Greg, a volunteer installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

You can Check for Updates at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update to see if it provides a Sound driver when it scans to notice it's missing.

You can also right click Start button to open Device manager, choose Sound device, then Driver tab, then Update driver automatically. See if it receives the driver from Windows Updates.

If not listed in Device Manager, from Action tab choose Scan for hardware to see if it detects sound device to install driver.

You can also run the Audio Playback troubleshooter at Settings>Update & Security>Troubleshoot.

If not go to the Support Downloads web page for the PC model to download and install the Sound driver.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
