Restart to repair drive errors [Windows 10]

Hi,

I recently install NVMe M.2 SSD with PCIe x1 adapter when the problem occur.

It ask me to restart and so here is what I have done (in order):

1. Restart (the message still appear)

2. Properties > Tools > Check (No errors)

3. CMD as below:

I am about to proceed with CHKDSK but since I got this message in CMD that I have no idea what it means I don't want to messed up and coming straight here.

Thanks in advanced!

Hi Plums. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator. If you will work with me I will be here to help until the issue is resolved.

How long since you installed and did it run well before this happened?

What is the error message you got? I don't see it.

See Step 10 here how to proceed with System File Checker to check and if necessary repair the image file used to fix files with DISM, then try again up to 3 separate times:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...
If that fails go on to Step 11.

If you were prompted for a Disk Check, follow this guide to run it from Command Prompt: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/check-hard-dri...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you will wait to choose if I resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hello Greg,

It's only been two days since I installed the SSD.

The story (if it would help) :

For the first day, I manage to get my Adobe Software working without issues, then I tried to install a game on the drive, my internet got cut in the middle of downloading a digital game, the app (Uplay Launcher) crashed and I probably did something that I don't remember but only after all these, I got a feeling to check the notification panel (usually I don't) a notification as below was shown:

Seeing the above message, I restart my pc couple of times and it still there.

While having the message as shown in picture above, upon accessing files in the drive, it pops up dialog box stating as below:

Notes:

1. This image is from google and the drive name is different obviously but the message is exactly the same.

2. I took this from google as I don't received the message after formatting the drive and there's no file to be tested (to open).

Having these two messages, I decided to do the following:

1. Restart the pc (the problem still there)

2. I format my drive and check with: Properties > Tools > Check (No errors)

3. I also did rd /s /q G:\$Recycle.bin as suggested from other forums.

However...

To be more confident about having no errors, I did the sfc /scannow which is one of the method mentioned in step 10 of your link.

Upon completion it stated as below:

The result shows there's corrupted files found but unable to be fixed.

From this point I'm not confident enough to use the drive yet and I'm not sure if I should proceed with DSIM and CHKDSK.

Should I just continue with the steps, or am I safe to use the drive or do you want to look at the CBS.log?

The drive errors it refers to are file system errors checked and if necessary repaired by Disk Check. I gave you how to run Disk Check. Did you run it yet? If it finds errors it can't fix then run the SSD maker's diagnostics:
https://mashtips.com/ssd-health-test-and-perfor...
https://merabheja.com/ssd-health-monitor/

I gave you how to complete the System File Checker, or if it won't repair the files to do a Repair Install. Please follow Step 10 in the Checklist: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.... If it won't complete then move to Step 11.

Hi,

I did the DISM command and I think it fixed the issue. I was afraid to do so previously but thank you for giving me the confidence!

I will do some testing on all hard drives now and will update if the problem persists.

I was waiting to hear back if the problem was resolved. May I ask why you marked my posts unhelpful when I said I would keep working with you until it's resolved? This affects my ratings here. You said the problem was fixed. I was waiting for you to confirm this. All I heard back was two bad ratings given my posts.

Hi, I have no idea about the marking as unhelpful, I did nothing.

I was busy with something the other day up until this morning.

Now that I'm free, here's an update...

So, after I did the CMD stuffs it did fixed my problem, strangely enough, once restarted, the message appears once again.

However good news is, I restart multiple times, and it is gone.

I will consider it as fixed.

Thank you.
