Resource monitor constantly freezing??

Sometimes my fans start getting really loud when im on edge so i check task manager and resource monitor however resource monitor constantly freezes. If i minimize it, it wont respond and wont come back on the screen and i dont understand why?

I ran a scan with MSS and EEK just in case there is anything that might be interfering or interacting with it but nothing comes up so i am confused.

I also ran sfc/scannow to check if anything is corrupted but there is nothing.

my windows security periodic scanning option also switched off and idk why (it can be switched on so there isn't really a problem i think )? i have mcafee so it is the primary antivirus on my pc.

Hi

Welcome to Microsoft community.

I understand how frustrating it can be when Resource Monitor is constantly freezing, especially when you're trying to troubleshoot performance issues on your PC. To better identify the root of the problem, I recommend the following steps:

Boot into Safe Mode

Safe Mode loads Windows with only the essential drivers and services. This can help determine if a third-party application or driver is causing the issue.

Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.

Choose Safe Mode from the options presented.

Once in Safe Mode, check if Resource Monitor still freezes.

Uninstall Graphics Drivers

Sometimes, issues with graphics drivers can cause Resource Monitor and other applications to become unresponsive. This is particularly relevant if you're experiencing problems while using Edge, as hardware acceleration might be the culprit.

In Device Manager, expand Display adapters.

Right-click your graphics card and select Uninstall device. Make sure to check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device" if available.

Restart your computer, and it will automatically revert to the basic Microsoft display driver.

After uninstalling, check Resource Monitor again to see if the freezing persists.

Disable Hardware Acceleration in Edge

Hardware acceleration can sometimes lead to performance issues in specific applications, including Resource Monitor.

Open Edge and go to Settings > System and performance.

Toggle off Use hardware acceleration when available.

After making this change, restart Edge and monitor your system's performance.

Check for Background Processes

Some background processes might be consuming significant resources, leading to system lag and unresponsive applications.

Open Task Manager and check the Processes tab for any applications or processes using excessive CPU, memory, or disk resources.

If you identify any suspicious or heavy processes, consider ending them to see if it improves the situation.

Scan for Malware

Why: Although you've run scans with MSS and EEK, it's still a good idea to ensure there are no hidden malware or unwanted programs that could be affecting performance.

Consider using additional third-party security tools for a more thorough scan.

By following these steps, you should be able to narrow down the cause of the freezing in Resource Monitor. If the issue persists after trying these suggestions, please let me know, and we can explore further options together. Thank you for your patience, and I hope these steps help you resolve the issue!

I have uninstalled my graphics driver and restarted and resource monitor seems to be better, its just slightly laggy.

I also ran KVRT and eset online scanner and microsoft defender and nothing has been detected.

Thanks for your help. If the problem reoccurs i will notify you.
