Reset Dell XPS Laptop with Pre-Installed Windows 10 - steps?

I need to re-set my Dell XPS Laptop, which has a pre-installed Windows 10 on it (I bought the laptop and the retailer put Windows 10 on it, so I don't have a Windows CD or a product key). My understanding is that with a pre-installed Windows 10 I don't need to worry about saving Windows on a USB stick to install it from after reset, and that I don't have or need to enter a product key to make Windows 10 run again after re-set.

Is that correct? I don't want to reset and then find out that I cannot use my computer due to Windows not being ready.

Once I saved all relevant files, can I simply start re-setting my laptop and the pre-installed Windows will be installed automatically?

Thanks!

If you bought your computer from Dell, here are Dell's instructions:

I bought the laptop from B&H, not directly from Dell. But I will check out the link and see if it still useful.

Thank you!

Hi ReneRopac123

in essence, yes that is correct.

there are a number of options for recovering windows

a reset will give the option to delete everything or keep your files and, normally, would not need you to download windows 10 first.

a factory restore, this will remove everything and restore the computer to the way it was when you bought it. this uses a hidden recovery partition so will not need you to download windows but there will be a number of updates to download afterwards.

an in place upgrade, this will require you to download windows 10 but will refresh windows and update to the latest version.

BulldogXX's link, among other solutions will tell you how to perform a factory restore
