Repeated WMI Error 0x80041032 (Event 5858) caused by swiservice.exe, cause "Unknown"

Hi everyone

I came across this while looking into what's gobbling up CPU power at startup. This is the output from Event Viewer > Applications and Service Logs\Microsoft\Windows\WMI-Activity\Operational:

Using Task Manager, I found that ProcessID 6404 is "swiservice.exe".

It's not a huge problem, as it seemingly only peaked at about 2% of CPU, but it does happen every 5 minutes while idle, which seems a tad wasteful and inefficient, so if it's an easy fix, I'd like to fix it. I just don't know where to go from here to track it further.

There are also a lot more frequent and repeated 5858 events at startup, but with different clients and operations. I was not fast enough to track those ClientProcessId before they terminated, but I figure the one above might be the best place to start, and see what things look like after it's fixed.

Or is this largely a non-issue and I should just ignore it?

Hello, I’m Virginia, I have 20 years of expertise in fixing my own & friends’ PC problems.
Sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems.

That file is Sierra Wireless, do you have this software/hardware installed on your system? If yes then the adapter may be failing or require a driver update.
https://www.file.net/process/swiservice.exe.html If not then the file can also be malware:
Try running these programs:
MBAM free: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/
Eset online scanner: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/
Adwcleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

If these find one or more infections but do not fully remove them it will be wise to register with a malware removal site to receive dedicated malware removal instructions, an expert will remain with you throughout the process until confirmation that your PC is 100% clean.
