Repair the registry of Windows 8.1

My apps no longer function, tiles no longer function, and the google store tile no longer functions.  I had malware which was removed but it appears to have altered something in my registry.  Is there a way to reload Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit or restore or repair the functionality of Windows 8.1?

Hi AldenStout,

Please answer these questions to get more clarity on this issue.

-          Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

-          What is the error message you get while trying to work with Apps and tiles?

-          Which security software did you use to scan the computer?

This issue might occur if the system files and settings are either missing or broken. Sorry to know that you are facing this issue.

Let us follow these methods and check if this helps.

Method 1.

You may run the SFC scannow tool and restart the computer to check if the issue persists. SFC /scannow is a super-useful command you can use in any Windows version. When the SFC (System File Checker) command is used with the /scannow switch, the tool will scan all of the important Windows files on your computer and replace them as necessary. Missing and corrupt operating system files (like many DLL files) are arguably the biggest cause of major Windows issues.

Refer to these steps to perform a SFC scan:

a) Press Windows key + X, select Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated command prompt.

b) In the command prompt type the following command: sfc  /scannow and press enter.

c) After the scan, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Method 2.

If you have not backed up the data on the computer then you may try “Refresh your PC without affecting your files”. Refer to the steps under the section “To refresh your PC” from this article.

Note: Apps you installed from websites and DVDs will be removed. Apps that came with your PC and apps you installed from the Windows Store will be reinstalled. Windows puts a list of removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

If data is not a concern then you may reset the pc. All of your personal files will be deleted and your settings will be reset. All apps that you installed will be removed. Only apps that came with your PC will be reinstalled.

Refer to the steps under “To reset your PC” from this article.
